You can pretty much do whatever you want, the only time you would really need a specific set of artes is if you already know the game like the back of your hand and can solo bosses.

Personally, I just map artes to a direction that makes sense to me so like, Destruction Field would be Down-Arte since he slams the ground. Repede's Crescent Strike would be Up-Arte since he knocks the enemy into the air.

it depends on who you play. For yuri you probably have to find out your own combos, when you only can normal > base > arcane, after you can do normal > base > altered > arcane in any direction, there are some moves that connect to each other poorly and some that are great. Also tension skill and overlevel allow you to greatly execute combos, brutal fang is probably the best arte, because it enables tension well and gives you time to prepare further combo.

For example shining fang and cerberus strike connect great to pretty much everything, while destruction field doesnt work well with some arcanes and ghost wolf works quite bad with everything ( it becomes easier to connect after 100 uses ). Also there are some cool air combos, you have to use artes certain amount of time to be able to use mid-air. For example you can cancel tiger blade mid-air into another air arte after 200 uses.

For guide you can probably watch videos, though you are not gonna do as well as they without ton of practice.

Repede;
Use victory light spear to knock enemies down, then spam lighning dog for green fatal strike. With the right skills equipped, you get the FS within 2-3 lighning dogs, and refill your HP/TP.
Additionally, Gale Dog give 5~ seconds of immunity from damage, including enemy mystic artes as long as they are initiated within that time frame.

Maybe you'll find inspiration in my set up, or make something better. Yuri and Flynn need several Super Chains for this, Karol needs the Super Chains for Base to Altered, and Altered to Arcane

Yuri: Normal Hits, Shining Fang, Dragon Swarm, Tiger Blade, Shining Fang Drop, Cerberus Blast(cancel last hit), by then, Tyrant Fist has activated.

Flynn: Severing Fang, Tiger Blade(in air) Fierce Hell Fire Blade( in air) Tiger Rage( extra hit extension) Dragon Swarm,

Karol: Havoc Break, Destruction Street, Devil Rage Rise, Normal Hit, Havoc Break, Destruction Street, Devil Rage Rise etc

Rita: "I am so gonna make you hurt" "Blah blah blah...Tidal Wave!!"

honestly with chain skill you should experiment. There are alot of artes that chain badly into each other, aka enemy goes knockdown iframes fast. The most basic combo with super chain 1,4,5 is something like shining fang > shining eagle ( brings enemy higher instead of lower ) > either fang or tiger > shining fang drop > brutal fang > OVL > free run pick up > repeat. Easy 100+ combo. You can also input dragon swarm on single targets.

You can also start with arcanes or altered and follow the chain. There are some very sick combos including crazy pyre havoc chain with canceling artes in air etc.

later altered final gale and some other artes can take place, honestly with all chains it becomes super easy, just a matter of finding what suits you / when youd like to pick up enemies.

Judith is just as good as Yuri on the combo front, but she fights in the air, needs arte usage to unlock aerial compatibility for most things, and every Super Chain you can get. But it's worth it, because she can combo freely all day without being interrupted by ground enemies .

I've had success with upwards Normal hits, Piercing Moon , Thunder Moon, Moonglare, but i cant seem to extend Moonglare. I'm guessing it suffers the same problem as Patty's gamble artes.
