Question about the combat
I have the game on PS4 but I figured this was still a good place to talk about this. Is there something I'm not getting with the combat in this game? Because from what I've played so far... all I can say is it's god awful. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I lost in the tutorial fight super quickly and now I'm fighting the first "boss" after escaping prison and I cannot beat him. I press buttons but nothing happens usually unless my I bring my character to a complete stop first, it feels horribly choppy and clunky. I don't know what this is but it's not action combat. So... any tips?

Set the combat style on semiautomatic. Inside the arts menu

The combat is pretty cluncky in the early 20 hours of the game. It eventually gets better once you unlock more artes and more weapon skills and features.

replay untill you can beat tutorial on hard. After that you wont have problems with first boss

Solo combat in this game is god awful until much later. Just attack and retreat against the early bosses as much as you can. Once you get a full party (which will be very very soon) then you suddenly have a ton of aggro being drawn rather than having Yuri the sole target. Just suffer the first couple hours of the game; they're honestly quite bad.

Some tips: Don't use free run offensively. Use it to retreat from enemies giving you pressure and to reposition. When not in free run, you can initiate a combo from a full run. Also, combine Yuri's attacks with directional buttons to get different attacks. Forward for punches and stabs, up for upward swings (kinda slow though) and down for spinning horizontal slashes that are good for hitting small groups. And of course, always finish a combo with an Arte. When you get much later into the game, you'll be using Artes more than normal attacks, but early game you need to watch your TP.

also you dont need to bring character to a stop, if you attack while moving forward yuri does thrust attack rather that slash. If you attack while free run, he does free run attack. You probably just mashing all buttons possible and dont get response. This game requires adequate input from a player
