To minimize spoilers as much as possible, have several saves as you go. Explore thoroughly, and after you "complete" an area and the story directs you to the next area, check the guide to see if there is anything you missed/need to do after the area you just completed before you proceed.
In that guide, it tells you who joins and leaves, who you end up fighting, and the events that occur in the game. Those are major spoilers IMO.
There are better spoiler-free guides out there.
I'm using this one[gamefaqs.gamespot.com]
Still not quite finished part 2, the joys of a challenging job! But I did get the Steam guide started. Image, intro, full part 1 and the first two thirds of chapter 2. I'll probably make it a public WIP once chapter 2 is complete.
It's impossible to completely avoid spoilers since you need to describe the story events that unlock sidequests, places to go or characters to talk to.
i'm at halfway point of the game, so far i've missed some stuff, i mean REALLY GOOD STUFF like judith non-fell-arm weapon, estelle non-fell-arm weapon, 1 cooking recipe.
There are also several titles (possibly costume title) that have been locked till NG+.
The condition for those missables are almost impossible to do w/o reading guides, i mean they're utterly specific (both time and place), like judith weapon.
P.S.
Being spoiled a little by some guides (YES IT'S NOT EVEN SPOILER) is worth trading stuff you get from sidequests.
Sorry for taking so long, but it's public at least. I'll get through Chapter 3 as quickly as I can.

Yeah Brionac and Dark Enforcer are two of the more annoying sidequests that are easily missed. I actually missed Dark Enforcer part 2 on my first run, so I have to redo that again some time.
Still missing some items though, like the weapons that can ONLY be stolen at Zaude's optional bosses late in the game, never really used Repede but afaik these are the only missable items that needs to be stolen.
Not to undermine your efforts but what is the point of this? A perfectly good and complete guide that includes all side-quests and when they should be done already exists for ToV and it is spoiler free. It's by Asbel Lhant, and can be found here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/241013-tales-of-vesperia-definitive-edition/faqs/76752
One glance at that guide shows me that it it is a complete walkthrough plus arte, monster and item lists, so sidequests are mixed in and not the focus.
Two glances at that guide shows that it thinks the Ehmead Hill scene where Rita names Ekaterine is part of the Brionac quest line, which is one of the many common inaccuracies that I disliked enough to want to make a good guide back on the Xbox 360 version. Seeing wrong information like that on "perfectly good" guides for Definitive only bolsters that desire.
True there's a few incorrect entries like that. Another thing I noticed is that it doesn't tell you that you can get 'Meteor' for Rita right away after seeing the first scene that's mentioned in the guide for it. The guide only tells you to go back for it much later.
These are all very minor things though, and all in all it's still enough to get 100% completion.
Yep, no objections there. I just believe there's a need for a guide that only has the sidequests, for instance if a player doesn't want to be walked through the game but also doesn't want to miss anything missable. Or on repeat playthroughs when they already know how to get through the game and just want a checklist for the sidequests as they go.
Besides, that one is a full walkthrough, not just a sidequest guide.
