Is there a purpose after Chapter 2 ?
I see that Chapter 3 introduces building your own base but is there any purpose/goal past that? Or is it more scouring space to find parts to build bigger/larger bases?

Genuinely asking as I am debating if I should continue to play. Thanks!

I believe the story line continues thru the next chapters. If you are interested in that.

So, once you've gotten to Chapter 4, the game takes a turn that makes it more goal-focused, in my opinion. Honestly, the base building is a very minor part of the game and unless you just like doing it, I recommend only crafting the basics and keep moving towards the end. Quite a few interesting story-related things happen as you progress. Definitely get your suit equipment upgrades and all the tool blueprints you can find.

Yeah the base building is minimal to the point of being nearly redundant, just build a simple hab with research bench and don't expand the 'base' beyond that.

The base you build just needs to have the basics - there really is no point in building more than whatever is needed to achieve your goals, and you don't come back to the base from chapter 4 onwards. It's also not worth furnishing your base apart from maybe a bed if you need to heal, and maybe a ceiling display (which shows you how much oxygen/power is consumed by the base, and if you need to build more).

There aren't enough resources to build out a 'proper' base anyway.

listen in chapter 2 you need to lower radiation 6 times, chapter 3 repair and use normandy, chapter 4 explore the space debris with normandy and search for babe, chapter 5 get to the liner and finish the game (eventually)
