What's with the chicken?

I'm looking for something along the lines of Empyrion.
Skimmed a few reviews - and the chicken keeps getting a mention.

Is the chicken supposed to be a funny gag?

The chicken is stopping me from buying this - if it's supposed to be funny - I'm worried the developers might be 11 years old.

It's sort of used as a funny gag yes. If you don't like it and that's the reason why you don't want to play the game then that's up to you. You really only use or see the chicken in certain situations. Most of the gameplay it's basically not there and you forget about it.

if 11yo can program this, then kudos to them! the chicken is older than you/the Man, it has been in family for long time. why? what is it? i don't know yet. it is a result of some ?military? experiment, project or whatever. swiss army chicken, that's it. multitool.
the humour is good, but what one considers funny is always subjective.

The chicken is an immortal creature handed down in Man's family for generations. The main character uses it as a multi-purpose tool a lot and it's just one of many childish jokes in this game. Honestly if the chicken bothers you, this game probably isn't for you at all. It is saturated with low ball humor and quips.

I'm into 7 days to die, Empyrion, Conan, etc.
This doesn't sound like it's for me.

How is this game anything like Empyrion? Sounds like someone has zero research skills or is just a troll.

PS Maybe you should give Valheim a shot. It is gated and pretty linear for an open world but still enjoyable.

Agreed, Valheim is great. Got 130 hours in it since release, mostly solo. The building is the best part of the game.

Steam brings this game up because I play Empyrion. It was recommend specifically - BECAUSE I play Empyrion. Space, building, survival, crafting, exploration... is that enough? Sounds like someone has zero research skills.... or, you know... troll.

The devs must have seen how wildly popular and and economically rewarding these types of games are - and decided the "fart joke" + "space survival" market was untapped.

So while I'll spend my money on Empyrion, Mine Craft, 7 days, Conan, Stardew, etc. I'll leave the fart jokes to Leisure Suit Larry.

Anyway - sorry didn't mean to offend. There's a market for this obviously, it's just not for me.

I seen the game and all I was asking is - is there a good space game here? Or is the soul of this game some mid-1990's Beavis and Butthead style bad writing.
I get it now - now that I've talked to you guys and have read a few reviews.

What a laugh riot. That would be so funny. This game was written by that guy at every party ever that won't stop doing Ace Ventura impressions 20+ years later. "Hey Jeremy - wouldn't it be really funny, if there was like, a chicken?".
