I've made careful note of what you've mentioned here and I'll be sure to check my inventory.
Thanks!!
1 or 2 resin for 1 gum ^^
Unfortunately, at least in the latest patch to the game, this is not true. Unless you have discovered gum in the overworld, you cannot craft it at base using resin. This was especially frustrating for me as when I did find the gum, it turned out that you need to examine a held item in the hand of the corpse to become able to craft it. Simply observing the wreck and the items around it (despite obvious pink gum everywhere) was not adequate.
You also cannot gain the blueprint from examining the gum back at the very start of the game. This feels like a missed opportunity to me, as I felt certain that was a clever solution to the issue.
The same is true of the scraper, you cannot craft it without having first found it. Though this is far less important overall if you work quickly.
And as an alternative to all of this, one could simply build many pieces of lead shielding around your base immediately to avoid dealing with these mechanics all together.
If you're fortunate enough to have discovered the roof-mounted monitor for your station, then unless you ignore what it says (and also ignore all the stats for your station components), then you will likely never be in a situation where you will ever actually need these.
Unless a recent patch has changed something of course - but last time I played (around when the "final" part came out), your base could only spring a leak if the "chance of a rupture" (or whatever its called) is > 0%. If you keep this at 0%, then you will never ever spring a leak, and therefore never need gum or a scraper, and spend the rest of the game wondering what these are actually for... ;)
TBH after I almost finished the game and checked out a guide to find what I might be missing, I purposefully built extra structurally weak crap in my station just to see a leak form, so I could use these!
I don't recall having to find anything like that in order to be able to craft gum...
Although I can't 100% confirm this because my memory is awful and I haven't played this in a while, but based on what I can remember and what I wrote in the post just above yours, I believe your suit will automatically give you the blueprint for gum and/or scraper soon after a leak appears in your base...
That said, I have an even vaguer sensation that being able to craft the gum appeared earlier than this?
Note that the gum is probably in a different menu than the scraper (you may have missed it if it was given to you much earlier, which I vaguely recall might be the case).
Hopefully others can either confirm this or provide the actual things needed to do to get this...
Note that if it IS the astronaut in the gum, you'll likely need to scan the gum with a scanner, and if that's the case there's probably a "sweet spot" you need to be looking to enable that option (usually these are obvious, but sometimes they're a pain).
I didn't get around to it and found the reinforced structure before gum so didnt have to worry about it. Still no idea what happens if a leak reaches 0/99, the whole thing disappears?
