Save system is weird
One of the things I liked about "Papers, Please" was the fact that if you reloaded the game from the last save, the slot would continue filling as normal until you reached one ending of the game

In this game, not only is that not the case, but loading a slot from the last checkpoint fills the next empty one and keeps rolling from there, so the previous save stops recording game progress. Fragmenting a single playthrough like this makes the game disjointed and also rather frustrating. At least "Papers, Please" has a nice save-branching system that lets you play any slot from any day. "Not Tonight," on the other hand, has limited saves and always fills a new slot even if the game is reloaded from the last checkpoint on the previous save. What gives?

Hey there! It was designed so that you could pick different options in a day and have two 'timelines' running so that you could see the consequences of certain actions!

Understandable, but loading from the very front of a save slot should continue that slot, not load it into the next available one.

I also think it's weird. When you reload you have to delete a slot. I accidentaly deleted my whole game when I died from exhaustion.

I think the most problematic feature in this game is the saving system. The game itself is nice.

The awful save system cost me more than an hour.
I don't think it's the worst thing about the game, though.

could it be possible to give us more save slots? I'd like more save slots

Understandable but this system confuses me a lot. I think a better approach could be that when an important action is approaching the game takes a backup and let you restore that backup to choose something different later.

I have the exact same problem. I've played the game in three sittings in which I just wanted to continue on one single save slot, but it's filled up all three slots. So now that I want to play again, I cannot continue and my only option is to delete 1/3 of my progress, and I must do it all at once without closing the game or going to the menu.

DEVs I UNDERSTAND THE INTENDED FUNCTION BUT IT'S ESSENTIALLY BROKEN THE GAME AND I CAN'T PLAY IT PLS FIX IT OR GIVE ME A SOLUTION WHERE I CAN TWEAK THE SAVE FILES SO THAT THEY WORK PLS I LOVE THIS GAME TOO MUCH TO STOP PLAYING plssss

+1 on this, It confused me a lot why I had 3 timelines of savegames and deleted the 2nd and 3rd. Then I realised that I lost a day of playing the game and had to replay it.
Now I understand that everytime I load a game it starts a new savegame timeline, which forces me to 'delete' timelines once I have 3 of them in progress. This is so confusing and made me lose my saves as I said.
Also, when there are "3 timelines of save games" it says "chapter 1 - day 1" for the new timeline savegames which is INCORRECT.

I have to agree that the save system is now quite frankly appalling. When I first got the game, it used to make sense. Now, whether it's glitched or intentionally changed, the fact that you now have to have a new empty save slot every time you load the game is bizarre.

Worse, since you can't tell which one is which beyond memorising how much money you had when you last played, you run the very real risk of deleting your most recent save in order to free up a save slot to load the game.

Loading the most recent save file should NOT require a new save slot. Ideally you should be able to continue it without even going into the load game menu.
When a new "timeline" is saved, it should NOT claim that the save file is only on day 1 or 2 when it's clearly weeks into the game.

The save file system needs fixing. Badly.

The game has stopped saving my progress. I had to exit the game, but when I returned, I've lost seven chapters. This saving system is messed up.

I dont get why I always have to delete a slot in order to just continue my game

My saves are just consistantly a week behind by actual progress. So unless I feel like loosing all that progress I can just never reload a save. If I had known that I never would have gotten deported for the achievement. That's so much time and I was already on my second replay because of a save corrupting.
