In the original PS1 version of Crash 1 did they give you a free tiki mask if you died too much on a level? Also does Coco play a bit differently than Crash in 1 and why isn't she playable in all stages?
This is my first time playing through the original Crash Trilogy games, I played a little bit of Crash 1 on PS1 on a emulator and I don't remember if they gave you a free tiki mask if you died too much. If they didn't I guess they made this version a little bit easier than the original?

Pretty cool that they added in a new playable character in the first game, does Coco play a little bit differently than Crash? Is she faster, does she jump higher, or is she just the exact same as Crash? What is the point in leaving her behind at the time machine? Once you get her I don't really see much of a point in leaving her behind. I think it would have been cooler if they made her an unlockable by doing something in the game like collecting all the gems/relics rather than moving onto a space and just grabbing her or leaving her there. Maybe she could have been an award for beating Stormy Ascent? What's weird about her is that she isn't playable in some stages, primarily the boss ones and the stages where you ride a pig I think. Why isn't she playable in those? I would have guessed they chose only Crash for the bosses since he is the main character and they would have liked him to be the one to beat them?

To answer your first question, no they did not. They did give you free masks from dying too much in the PS1 versions of Crash 2 and 3, but this was never the case for the first game on PS1. My guess is that this change was made in the N Sane Trilogy to match the sequels.
