Crash 2 relics
Does anyone have any advise on how to get them gold or better. I feel like the times to get them are so much more strict then crash 1. Is sprinting the way to go or slide jumping, maybe a combo of both. Just seems kinda rough but maybe its just cause the games play so different.

I would say to use the Speed Shoes all the time. You can even turn the R2 button into a toggle function on the Steam controller API, so you won't have to hold it all the time (to prevent a repetitive strain injury xD). And sprint and jump whenever you can, since it helps to save time too.

And it's funny, for me Crash 2 and specially Crash 3 have easier platinum relics than Crash 1. The slide and jump combo just make things a lot easier to deal with. Sometimes you can even avoid platforms sections by just jumping over them with slide+jump+spin technique.

Gold on "normal" running-levels is imo not that hard.
Keep running - and try to get all timestop-crates. Don't pause unless you really need to like for moving platforms. In general it just means trying a few times till you memorized the layout.
For platinum.... even with moving platforms you gotta keep running. That includes things like jumping over the moving-platforms to be faster.

And if you got troubles at a level where you really are "how the **** do i get even close to that" - Youtube. There are many videos on how to get platinum for every level.

OP, keep in mind that sliding into a spin jump lets you jump even higher. Momentum from the dash ability + high jumps can let you hop over things that would otherwise impede your time. Like those mushroom pits in some of the early stages.
