Glitch obtaining key in Sunset Vista? (Crash 1) [SOLVED!]

EDIT: This has been solved but I want to leave it up for anyone else experiencing a similar issue. If you're unable to get the key in Sunset Vista, play the entire level but don't collected all the boxes. Miss at least 1 box. Then when you finish you'll go to the end-of-level screen and it'll say you missed a box, then you'll return to the island with the key collected!

So I've already obtained the key in Jaws of Darkness and the only other level I need to get the key from is Sunset Vista.

So I ran through the course again, did the N. Cortex bonus and finished the level. Then straight to the island, and the Key slot is still empty when I stand on the level select. I paused and thought "damn I must have not grabbed it", so I do the level again and make it perfectly clear that I obtain the key and hear the ominous "ahh!" voice when you grab it. Then I complete the level and....still says no key has been collected.

With Jaws of Darkness I got the key and the gem for all boxes at the same time. But with Sunset Vista I had already snagged the gem for all the boxes but missed the key originally (first play-through on the N Cortex Bonus I accidentally ended without grabbing the key). So when I complete the stage now it goes straight to the island for level select instead of the end of level rewards page. Key reward is still silhouetted. Pause screen says 1/2 keys obtained. Did I screw this up? Seems like you should still be able to obtain rewards nonetheless.

I would really hate to start the game all over, I'm at 90% completion.

Anyone have this problem and was able to fix it? HELP!
