Black Screen Upon Loading Level - Definitive Fix

I was encountering this problem on initial boot like many when I started this game, searching around the forums provided a lot of information, and mis-information. Ultimately after a bit of trouble-shooting I can say with the utmost certainty that if you install this game to a // DIFFERENT // sub-directory || steam-library besides the main Steam directory, the issue will replicate and you will be unable to play the game. Why exactly this occurs I'm not certain.

TLDR, to wit;

I had the game installed on an SSD/sub-steam directory first >>
I then moved the game using the function within the game properties to the root directory where Steam was first installed >>
The issue immediately ceased. Game functioning normally. I also made sure to re-validate files after moving (no anomalies were found.)

Hope this helps anyone looking for something definitive as far as this issue is concerned. Cheers.

only two solutions:
- verify game files
- normalize game FPS

Unless you have problems in disk. Black\white screen are happened do wrong (too low\unstable or too high) FPS or corrupted files for some reason.

Also, for white (but not black) screen - one video option is bugged in settings. Turn it off do not increase FPS (same for most video options in Crash NST), but white screens showed at most levels.

Yea, as far as the black screen is concerned, this is more misinformation nonsense. Cannot speak to the "white" screen you're quoting. The problem is 1000% due to some anomaly with how the game is trying to communicate with the base Steam installation. It has absolutely nothing to do with FPS. While game files can be corrupt, the issue persisted on the initial installation on the non-native Steam installation drive with a clean installation/verified files. As soon as it was moved to the native Steam installation folder, it worked without issue instantly.

Something the devs should of addressed long ago regardless.

Hmm... My version work from SteamLibrary folder. Theoretically can be problem with that (Steam for whatever reason do not update copy of Steam2.dll and Steamworks redist 6 dll files in that custom SteamApps). But that can lead only to game start malfunction, i guess...

Black screen and white screen is not related to Steam. For me. But i sometimes update Steam2.dll manually copiyn it from root Steam. Same as 6 dll - but not from root - instead from SteamApps\common\Steamworks Redist\ folder (app id and depot id is 1007).
So maybe that the reason why it work for me...
Barely work. Have soe troubles with fullscreen mode - but cause Steam Overlay and looks like this is something related to Ms+Valve vs Windows 7.
