White and colored.
You get both by clearing a level withou losing any lifes and openign all boxes.
But they differ in what they do:
The white gems form a path in a later level, the colored gems open extra paths in other levels.
(Also - there are hidden Keys as well, unlocking 2 extra levels)
The green gem is not on the first island.
Minor correction here: in the N. Sane Trilogy version for Crash 1, only the 6 colored gems require you to go from beginning to end without dying and getting all of the boxes. (Dying and trying a bonus stage doesn't count against this limit)
You can get the clear/white gems as long as you get all of the boxes in a level; it doesn't matter how many times you die.
