Crash 2 platinum relics not obtainable until after you beat the game?

I'm currently trying to get the platinum relic for turtle woods, but the gaps near the end of the level seem impossible to jump across, which is seemingly necessary in order to get the platinum relic. Even with the dash jump spin technique, I'm only able to make the first gap. I decided to look it up and apparently you get speed shoes once you beat the game that can be used for the relics, so I'm guessing I need to do that first in order to obtain the platinums?

You actually can get all of the Platinum Relics without the speed shoes, given decent enough skill. The shoes just make the relics much easier to obtain.

For both Crash 2 and 3, it's better to just wait until you get the speed shoes before even bothering with Platinum, or even Gold trials. Of course with the exception of water, mount, space, etc. based levels since running makes no difference in those.

Turtle woods is probably one of the most infuriating relics to get because of the precision you need to clear the pits.
