Crash 3 vehicle levels
Ugh, can I just say how awful they can be for a lot of people and for some ruin the game for them? I have no problem with the underwater scuba levels because they at least play similar enough to the core gameplay to not bother me, but those racing levels just aren't fun for the same reasons the jetpack levels in Crash 2 aren't, and that's coming from someone that loves racing games.

The main problem is that they don't play anything like the core gameplay that people signed up for, they just expect you to get good at it from the start as if you were the one that created them and thus know how they work (I've had experience with game design before) with no real safe way to practice them before just throwing you into the heat of the moment, and the worst part is that they're required to finish the game.

That means if you don't like racing levels and can't finish them, you can't reach the final boss or play the later levels. They're not even optional mini-games at all. If they were, I'm sure very few people would've minded them that much at all and would've just been bonus content for those that enjoyed the main game and wanted more bang for their buck.

I know it came out later, but compare that to how Spyro 3 handles variety - that game felt like the gold standard of how to do variety in a platformer such as allowing you to safely practice the vehicle controls before throwing you into the actual levels with a reasonable difficulty curve, they all tie into the core gameplay in some way and the best part is that they're all optional. Barring three character levels, you don't even have to play the mini-games if you just want to reach the ending, instead allowing you to complete the challenges you like and ignore the rest.

To each their own. I only had problems with those vehicle levels when I was a kid. I agree they require a bit more of skill than, say, the Pura/Polar levels, but they're still not that hard. You just have to know when to go full speed and when to slow down. The tracks aren't that long so replaying them a few times can give you a general idea.

Also, if you dislike vehicle levels, don't ever play Wrath of Cortex. That game has more vehicle levels than normal ones.

Oh, believe me, I've played Wrath of Cortex and this problem was only magnified tenfold on top of the fact that they're not fun to play at all. Vehicles are not the only way to add variety to the game.

The vehicles don't control as well as the original's did.

Not sure how they are different to the original, but in Crash3 the bike-levels felt a lot more unforgiving - not really fun anymore.
I have my PS1 and an emulator set up since i got the remaster just to see if i remember wrong or there are bigger differences and to me it feels like the bike-levels are the biggest difference in mechanis.

I thought the bike levels in both versions felt unforgiving as it essentially requires you to get good at a completely different genre entirely with little room for error, which is weird seeing as I loved Spyro 3's skateboard challenges a ton and were one of my favourite parts of that game, races included.

I don't like of any water-related level on Crash, getting the Red Gem is annoying, but not impossible aleast
