Turtle Woods and The Pits
To get gold relic in these 2 levels, can it be done without skipping any of the mole pits themselves? I'm wondering if at least one of them are supposed to be skipped to get it, or is there a way to do it while also spending the time to clear the moles before progressing. All videos show the player either slide jumping over them or using a jump-spin technique to get out of them immediately.

It can be done without skipping the mole pits. I wasnt able to make the spin jump both times but still hit the gold mark by the end.

What are some tips/strategies to do this when not skipping them? For Turtle Woods, no matter what I try, I end up at the end like 3 seconds late. Then for The Pits, the gold time is 1:11, except I get to the third mole pit by 1:11. I already got the speed shoes. There is something I'm definitely missing here.

Sorry for the slow reply. I wanted to retry the trials again before I gave some advice. Are you running + slide jumping? I always do that and unless I make a huge mistake, that method got me at least gold for every trial. What you can do to shave off some time in turtle woods is run+ slide jump and then spin over the first path of water. When I did this with the right timing I went well over 95% of the water that would otherwise slow me down and barely had to short hop out to reach try land. I think the moles popping up have a fixed location they popup each time, so if you can remember where that is you can catch them right when they appear so no time is wasted. Personally I didn't do that and was just running and spamming the spin and it worked out fine. I ended up getting 52.86 for that trial just now and that was with me messing up on the second bed of water slowing me down. I used the same kind of strategy for the pits, it was close and I didnt take note of the time but it was within gold.

If you still see yourself falling a bit short each time it would be worth getting used to running+slide jump spin over the mole pits. It shaves a boatload of time off and you can still get away with gold if you made slight mistakes before hand and skip over all the mole hills.

Thanks for the strats! I did basically a combination of running with slide-jumping. While I didn't do the slide-jump with spin for extended air, I actually slid-jump the closest to the mud/water that I could so that if I land in the mud, a single jump is only needed to get fully across it. Then a bit later, I box-bounced across the other mud sections. Turtle Woods is done, but I'm still struggling on The Pits. I want to avoid skipping mole pits if that wasn't something that was intended, you know? I suppose I just need to do slide-jumping frequently.

Since the level itself is straightforward I can be very reckless with my slide jumps there. The only down time when I'm not using them is the mole pits. Outside of those sections I chain slide jump all the way nonstop.

I will be doing this strategy, looks like it's the only way to go, which is slide-jump chains. I bet it will be fine :)

Ok I tried slide-jumping nonstop in The Pits. Still does not bring me anywhere near close. Would you be able to double check if this one can be done without pit skipping or exploits?
EmperorReptile Apr 6, 2020 @ 3:22pm
Can be done without pit skips or any other abnormal methods. Here is my run I just did https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2051174308

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, what is going on with my run attempts at this? Getting to the end by 1:08, I get to just the third ambush by around 1:10 if I'm lucky. There must be something about the slide jump timing I'm doing wrong where it isn't the fastest. Do you take the left or right path at the fork?

EDIT: Also in the meantime I'm just breezing through the relic times of the later levels so far. Haven't gotten to warp room 4 which I read Hangin' Out will give the most trouble, but it's overall going pretty smoothly.

Devs did Platinum without any tricks.
You must beat Cortex before trying to achieve Gold/Platinum relics.

As I said, I already got the speed shoes. I'm really at a loss for what to do for The Pits. Is there any video out there that shows this level being beaten without the exploits/skips/tricks?

Too much or too low fps affect Time Trial timer.

I got you man. Here is a video I made of the trial without skipping the mole pits. Hope this can help you out.

Ok now there's a serious problem going on here and both QWEEDDY2 and EmperorReptile are bringing this to attention. First, I've been stupidly neglecting to explain that I'm using the Switch version, and I only didn't mention that because I really didn't think the versions might differ in something this major (I thought maybe something like control responsiveness at most).

In your video, the frame rate is much smoother and Crash is able to move at a much faster speed compared to on Switch. Somehow, the timer is counting up at real-time speed, but the gameplay is slower in my version. This pretty much nails on the head why I can't reach the end on time. How the hell did something like this get overlooked by the devs?

Now I have to try to find out more information about this. Either way, you've been awesome in helping me out EmperorReptile and I appreciate it :) I also want to say thanks to QWEEDDY2 for your suggestion!

Check video (here in news or directly on YT) FPS comparison on differ platforms. Probably Switch really have some FPS drops. originally game designed for 30 fps.

So how about some tricks? I think that FPS drops only in few levels and anyway that levels can be beaten on Platinum with some tricks. Like in video above: crouch+jump+spin - most times instead of running. In remake version it not so easy to jump OVER the pits, but player can easily jump from pits from first enemy or used crouch+spin+jump and UP(FORWARD) button.
