I don't think it's that hard. I'm not particularly good at platform games but I have 12.6 hours of playtime and I've already beaten Crash 1 and I'm about 3/4 of the way through Crash 2. Not going for 100%. There have been a couple levels that have taken a good number of tries but nothing that made me want to throw my controller out the window or anything like that.

With the exception of losing roughly 45 lives on "Road to Nowhere" I've flown through the rest of the game with very little difficulty. No idea why I struggle so bad on that map now. On my ps1 it isn't even hard.

Protip, jump on the ropes on the sides, and run along them. Smooth sailing through the bridge levels, easy.

Stormy ascent was the only real "challenge". I got all level timed (gold or platinum). This level i didnt get even the sapphire one.

to be honest, if you unsure of extra difficulties they added, then just emulate psx versions, i specifically bought this remake because i knew they added new things like time trials for crash 1 and 2, and i wanted those extra challenges, but other than that, there is not much reason in getting remake as its exactly the same as originals, if anything remake actually worse with controls

Except the graphics are much better and in general make the game easier to play.

Not really, people just aren't use to awkward PS1 games anymore.

In a way, the Trilogy is actually easier than the original as far as Crash 1 goes.

In the original Crash 1 game, you only had one chance at doing the bonus stages. If you failed it, you had to restart the entire level. Also if you died after hitting a checkpoint in a level, you destroy your chances of getting any Gem (even clear)...

It might feel weird to control, especially if you played the original games on the ps1. But no, it's not too hard, and certainly not impossible either.
But in the original Crash 1 the bonus level didnt matter for the gems. The crates didnt count. So if you died in a bonus stage you still had the chance to get the gem.
The first one has its moments for sure. But if you keep failing, the game gives you one of those masks guys.

I think your memory might be failing you. You can die in a bonus stage without failing to get the gem (that hasnt changed) as well as you are allowed to die before the first checkpoint (since you start at the beginning anyway). You have always needed to break every box in the bonus stages but it has never mattered if you die in a bonus stage (you will lose any Aku Aku that is all).

The High Road & Slippery Climb are the most challenging levels in the whole triology (levels can be found in Crash 1). Spent 45 minutes yesterday tyring to pass High Road, had no luck so gave up and didn't bother trying till today once I got home from work. Completed the level without losing all my lives on the first try. Completed slippery climb only dying once. As long as you keep calm and not rage like I did yesterday, you'll be good.

No, my memory is correct, but the way you wrote: "In the original Crash 1 game, you only had one chance at doing the bonus stages. If you failed it, you had to restart the entire level. I felt implied that in the remake, dying after hitting a checkpoint still enabled you to get the gem. You're allowed to die in bonus stages after hitting a checkpoint, but in the regular level after hitting a checkpoint, dying means you can't get the gem without restarting the entire level.

IN THE ORIGINALS
you hit a checkpoint and die, you restart the level.
you die in a bonus stage you restart the level (BOXES IN THE BONUS STAGE COUNT)
you die in a bonus stage after hitting a checkpoint, i THINK you have to restart the level as well
IN THE REMAKE
you die at all, no restarting the level (unless going for a colored gem)
that being said if you did die in the originals you theoretically COULD still get the gem if you backtracked through the level and went on to not die. because if you died it would reset all the boxes, its just simpler to restart the level

Oh please, Crash 2 is one of the first games I've ever played since I was like 3 or 4.
I can beat the levels just fine but it took a while for younger me to realise that breaking all boxes would give out a gem despite the box counter seen at the end of a level.

Or OP can just ignore the Time Trials, they're completely optional in Crash 1 & 2.
The controls doesn't feel worse to me but I'm aware they changed the jumping physics to match Crash 3's.

No. Crash was never hard. maybe going for 100% is challenging but a normal any& playthrough isn't hard
