C1 Fumbling in the Dark bugged?

I'm trying to get the Relic but at around 1:20 I lose the light from Aku Aku. He's still floating with me but he doesn't illuminate like he's supposed to. I've picked up every Aku Aku box on the way by spinning into them myself, so I know the timing isn't supposed to be off. I should have plenty of light left...

I believe there is a certain segment in the run where the light is being deflected by a big spiked object on the left and it limits the range of the light for a brief moment.
