I prefer the joystick, even on the dualshock 4. For the original 1990s games its different. D-Pad feels way better in games like the old Resident Evil games (I jst played them this week)
I use the D-Pad whenever I want to be precise with my movement.
Analog can provide only step-by-step walking. Useless and actually worse than run-walking. For all other action (jumps\mount runs\moto and water-board) D-pad is much better. In original PS1 game too. Original controlling and levels do not create for Analog joypads -- and same in the remale\port.
And Vicarious broke original contrloling, so it more worse to play on Analog.

Good luck!
All chines-based controllers (Logitech) must work if they fork in Windows Control Panel.
Don't use Steam\Steam Big Picter for control settings presets.
However, most d-pads are trash. There are no good ones on modern controllers.
It depends on the controller, too; Xbox 360 d-pads are unusable, so you're kinda stuck with its analog stick.
You'll have the easiest time with keyboard (and mouse).
