...yes? You can lock any game to any framerate you want. It's a universal setting in your graphics driver.
But since it's a very recent article, and the devs should have noticed that people are asking for FPS unlock. I think it's actually locked. They are just not mentioning it directly because they want to avoid bad press for their console shoe box gaming. That obviously got some overhaul with graphics and all...
But hey, PC gamers always loved FPS locks even during times when we had only 60hz. So, there was no way for Activision to predict that no PC gamer was going to like this.
Activision needs a reminder what happens to those who defy the Glorious Personal Computer Gaming Master Race with extra RAM downloaded. Just look at Batman Arkham Knight, Activision. This should cause some chill inside your panties. -.-
Even 60 fps is too low for me now, i have 144hz and the difference is night and day.
Even if you have a 60hz monitor, but when FPS is unlocked and not vertical synced to the 60hz, so can go above it internally, say 115FPS for example. You will only see 60FPS, but the game logic itself is still ticking much higher on that 115FPS, so comes with much more responsive keyboard/mouse/gamepad input. This is the reason why through out history of gaming. First person shooter players always tented to turn off VSync and put up with even screen tearing, and stuttering, and went above the 60hz mark of their monitors internally. Only with VSync on it’s true "60". And as PC gamers know, 60hz + VSync On sucks. It’s screen tearing free, and stutter free, but it lags.
60 FPS is a slide show. You may not notice it now. But once you have tried 120, and I did, you actually may confuse 60FPS with 30FPS. And I did, too. 60FPS isn't as "real time" as many may think these days. Hence, 30 FPS is the biggest joke. I had to double check that I play on 60hz, and not 30, when I made a side by side comparison with my 165hz monitor.
You don't have to look at the FPS meter to notice this either. Already with the Windows mouse cursor you will notice it quickly that you are on 60. I have a 60hz right next to my 165hz monitor. And when I move the mouse cursor over to the 60hz monitor, it's a lag hard. On desktop, even the mouser cursor is trailing behind the actual mouse input. So as funny as it may sound, but 60FPS isn't even good for Windows desktop applications either. :)
Though, to keep in mind. First person shooters, and third person shooters are much more sensitive to input lag that than sider scrolling games, or RTS games. Or any game played more with keyboard/gamepad. You will always notice the smoothness, but the input lag is the worst in first person, or third person played with mouse. Mouse is accurate constant input, that is much more sensitive than a gamepad. That's why console gamers never really feel the lag, although make no mistake, it's of course still there! We just blame the slow gamepad first then the lower frame rate after. And in movies, that are not even 30FPS, but 24FPS. We don’t notice the lag at all, because there is no input for a movie, hence no input lag. So 24FPS for a move are not a problem even for me.
Yeah my PC could easily run this at 144hz, and I would really enjoy the game more if i could run it on 144hz for ultimate smooth gameplay.
Haha yeah, but luckily its better than these pathetic 30 fps consoles have in 2018 lol.
Because unfortunately, MUH GRAPHICS! sells much better than responsive gameplay.
But for some reason it's decided that 30 fps was the pain threshold, rather than 50 to 60. Game has to look as sexy as humanly possible. After all, screenshots and videos are used to promote the game, and not actual demos where framerates would suddenly matter, so I understand why. Some games even dip down to ~20 - 15 fps on the PS4 on occasion. It's a sad situation.
