FPS Problem!!

Hi. When im in the menus i have 200-300 fps, but when i go into a game i drop down to 20-40 fps. Its unplayable. I get crashes sometimes too.
Computer specifications:
Processor: Intel core 2 duo E4400
Motherboard: ASUS P5L-VM 1394
Graphics card: Radeon HD 6870
RAM: 2gb

you shouldn't have to worry about anything else, the last 3 piece set-up you posted will work perfect for any future upgrades. personally i would go with the "K" attached to the processor if you have any computer-literate friends that could show you how to increase your ratios when you need it. z77 chipset has gen3 pci-e without a bios update so when you upgrade your graphics (probably 2 yrs+) you wont have to upgrade your motherboard again.

I had the same problem... exactly. And I have a dual core amd for a cpu, well I upgraded to a 1gb geforce graphics card instead of a 512mb which gave me 20 more fps... and I ordered a bigger power unit around a 500 w, which will increase it more. The total it costed me is 80 bucks, not a lot of money and it's playable now

If you don't overclock, stick to the non K series chips. They are cheaper.

atleast get a quad core cpu... source engine is more cpu intense. and you definetly need more ram. 2gb for windows and csgo, nope.

Go settings and all graphics to minimum is the best form and then you go up a bit the important things like textures until you have decent fps
