Mac DPI vs Windows DPI
so heres the deal: I use mac (i know i know pc better blah blah) and ive recently acquired the deathadder 2013 and a large mousepad (razer goliathus speed Alpha). I read everywhere that most of the pros use 400-500 dpi and 1.5-3.0 sensitivity somewhere in there. i have been playing around with these sensitivities and what not and it seems like its just not as fast on mac as it is in windows. 500 dpi and 3.09 sensitivity and i still cant do a 180 degree turn in one swipe across my pad. it seems like most pros with even lower sensitivities can do a 270 degree turns quickly no problem in one swipe.

My question is could this have something to do with mac dpi being different? i know the mouse accel algorithms or whatever are different, but i have mouse accel off so i figured it should be the same. Anyone know the answer to this for sure?

I also use a Mac to play CS GO. The formula to find your true sensitivity on Windows is Windows sens * DPI * Ingamesens. Note:- Windows sens = n/11 where n is the sensitivity chosen. Here is where the difference arises. Mac has n/10. Moreover, the highest and the lowest sens are totally different so the ratio messes up. DPI = Dots per Inch. Inch will remain the same everywhere. But Mac sens is different from Windows. Hence you might be thinking that Mac DPI > Windows DPI or whatever but it is actually the OS sensitivity that is different. So the solution. Use a sensitivity that you feel is right by trial and error. Derive an equation out of it. And you can finally find the actual conversion. I am working on one and will soon post it as thread when I am done. If you feel that the sensitivity you are using is fast slow it down by a lot. Then increase it till you reach a decent rate which you like. I would recommend that you use some third party software to actually to turn mouse acceleration out. If you have a gaming mouse, use the driver software. Since, I don't I use SmoothMouse. It works out for me. Hope you find this useful. :)

A quick point for all you Mac bashers. The guy asked you to give him a formula to actually be able to play CSGO. Stop replying meaningless BS:
I use Mac Mini 2012, and have achieved a 120fps rate using 720p HD settings and Low settings overall. I use Intel HD Graphics 4000 and still get decent frame rates. El Capitan FTW.

I think the video in this thread is the best ever. It's just a (normal) cs go good player, and you see how he move his harm in game. I struggle also to find the perfect one since I used to play with a crappy mouse not for game at all and no mousepad (was laser so not really needed).

I think also mac sensitivity is lower by default than windows sensitivity. I can't say how much, if you want to do science there's some website that online help to mesure you'r dpi with a meter and all but this can change os after os so do it if you want!

I think the video resume exactly the idea : just find you'r perfect sensitivity on a good day by seeing if you move you'r mouse too much just to hanging around on a map, which mean it's too low, or if oppositely you have real difficulty to aim, which is too high. You'r perfect sensitivity is between both settings.

I made a guide about cs:go for mac and would be happy to contribute if you give some infos.

Personally as a base I put mouse sensitivity in mac setting to 5, all half or 3/5 if it's not even.
For DPI, I can't control it so IDN. In game now i'm moving around 3. But that's not definitive.

it is a special gaming mouse and its made for both mac and pc. the instructions do say that recommended mouse accel for mac is 5 and windows 0, but like i said i have mouse accel off which is recommended by pretty much everyone for consistency reasons.

This is my question: Is Mac dpi different than windows dpi?

I already know the mouse accel is different

Totally the same. I have CRAZY low speed at the moment, and I'm using 1.26 sens and 1600 DPI. This is VERY slow on mac, however, on a Windows it is not. I'd love if someone figured out how much the difference was, so I could compare, but you're right. Windows and Mac DPI aren't the same. I have had issues with my mouse software that came with my mouse, so I downloaded SteerMouse. It is a reallly good and reliable DPI and mouse button/scroll speed adjuster. I'd reccomend using this, especially if you ever want to change your mouse.

In regards to your last comment, I use full 1800/1080 and get 120+ fps. I use the recent iMac. Mac bashers are just going of the meme, they have no clue. If you give the name of Mac components, they are usually quite surprised. Not saying Mac's are optimised for gaming, but they certainly work.

You can calculate it online. You drag a red crosshair accross the screen the prescribed amount. My MAC DPI says 1600, yet it is actually 334 DPI, which seems accurate, as if you multiply that by sens, it is faster than the pros average, but not by much. I will try and find the link to the calculator.

thank you this was actually very helpful. I used to use 800 dpi as well and around 2.9 sens and it was pretty good. i recently watched a video about markeloff's settings and he explains that he can do a 350 degree turn with a full mouse drag windows settings 6/11 dpi 400 and in game sens 2.5. basically this is telling me that yes mac dpi is somehow slower than windows dpi. so id say 800 dpi is somewhere around 400 dpi in windows. also id say turn up ur polling rate to max. that has also been recommended to me by most vids about sensitivity and mouse settings

Did you consider the fact that most pro's use a 40cm wide mousepad?

using an 87cm wide mousepad, i cant do a 180 turn on 2 sens...

knowing mac, there's probably something blatantly different and proprietary. you'll probably have to buy a special gaming mouse for use with a mac. im guessing it will run 400-700 dollars if apple ever finds out that people actually play games on a mac.
THIS! ;D
That´s apple.
Then the will sue other company's for having gaming mice, and then those companies will pay apple billions in penny's.(great Samsung incident)
