How to record a demo on CS:GO
i recently discovered that in CS you can record a "demo" using the console and then watch it like "theater mode" on COD, can someone write or link a little guide to do this?

While ingame, type "record xyz" into your console, without the quotes.

When you want to stop your demo, write "stop", or simply disconnect from the game or quit the game entirely.
You will then find your demo named "xyz.dem" in your folder:
D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo
(Where ever you installed your steam).

When you want to watch it, type "playdemo xyz" in your consoly. When typing the x you shall already see a drop down of all your demos beginning with x.
Then it seems that you connect to a server to play, but you are joining your demo session. You now look the demo exactly as you recorded it.

If you want to analyze something, you can open the console and type "demoui" to open a small window in which you can slow down or fast up the play velocity (in percentage, from 2.8 (right?) to 100 (normal speed and default) up to 600 (to skip things)).

Hope that helped ;)

open the console while you playing then type

record (any name you want)

after that if you want to watch it

open the console and type: playdemo (name that you saved for)

thank you guys, just a last thing:
the recorded file allow me to freely move while i'm watching the demo (like cod) or i can only watch it like a normal video?

There are demos that allow you to fly around and go into POVs from different players, like the ones on HLTV. Don't know how to record them though. The demo you record is only exactly what you recorded in-game, with hud that you can't remove.

i must find a way to record that kind of demos, thank you anyway

+1
Yeah, there are two kinds of demos: the normal ingame demo I described, plus a GOTV Demo. GOTV Demos are not recorded by a player but by a TV "Bot", using another free slot of the server. Look it up using google, search for "GOTV, record demo", you'll find instructions of how to do this. But for that you need an own server + GOTV installed on it and I assume you have neither.

However, downloading GOTV demos and playing them is the same thing. If you download such a demo (well, any kind), put it into the folder I stated above. Then open your console ingame and type as usual "playdemo xxx", if it was named "xxx.dem". You then have more possibilities like flying around, look from other angles or simply just to switch between the players while watching how they do in 1st person. This is helpful to watch those scenes where the action happens.

ok, it's really difficult, i don't get why valve don't simplify this ♥♥♥♥, i mean... everytime i play cs something funny happens and i can't record an hour of gameplay with fraps, but i can't even record a demo for every match, my console don't even work (yes, i have enabled it and i have assigned the key... don't work anyway).
For who is interested i finded this video that explain pretty well how it works
VIDEO
By creating a decent cinema mode everyone could browse a personal online folder with temporary demos wich last for (example) a week and the player can easily save it, watch it and fly around during the match... i'm disgusted by saying that but COD is well realized in this sector.
Gabe pls, fix it

The spectator mode of CS:GO is probably no priority and it shouldn't be, concerning all the other things that need fixing. Taking into account that COD costs €60 and CS:GO €15, and it is often 50% off I may hope that COD is better in some aspects then GO.

Believe me, COD isn't better than CS
COD

For sure CS need to be fixed in many other aspects, but I think that a cinema mode would be very appreciated by the players
