How to replace M4A1 with a M4A4 in the buy menu? #NoobQuestion

Hi guys, I come from the CS1.6 world and recently have started playing CS:GO which I found really cool. I have about only 10 hours of gameplay, so please understand me.

While I was playing CS:GO recently, I've noticed that some of my fellow Counter-Terrorists had slincers on their pistols and M4A1's. From the buying menu I don't even have a M4A1 to choose from. I've read however, that the M4A4 eventualy gets replaced by M4A1. But how exactly this occures? From drops? Do I have to spend aditional money? :((

Go into your inventory, click on the specific item and then click on replace CT side or T side.

One way you can do it is to go to Inventory > Loadout > Rifles. Find the M4a1 and click on it then select CT replace M4A4. You can also do it in the Inventory itself by selecting the weapon you want to use.
