How to upload your CS:GO gun skin!!!

Steps:
1. Go to workshop_workbench in console.
2. Create a skin to your liking.
3. Save the skin, it should save in a .txt format.
4. Submit the skin after saving and it should bring you to the SDK program in steam.
5. Click browse on the .txt section and locate your saved skin.
6. To get your image of the skin that everyone see's in the workshop hit F12 in when you have created the skin you want.
7. Close CS:GO and upload your image to your screenshots.
8. Copy the screenshot image to (paint) or photoshop ect. and save it in a .jpg form to your desktop.
9. Click browse next to the black box in the upper left hand corner of the SDK program and find your .jpg pic.
10. Load the free (GIMP2) photorendering program and open your .jpg image into it.
11. From here you can add details, brushwork ect.
12. Save this in the .tga form in a folder inside your counterstrikeglobaloffensive folder.
13. Click browse on the .tga section and locate your saved .tga file.
14. Find your decal or use one of steams preset decals for the .vtf file.
15 Locate the one that you used (.vtf) and upload that one.
16. Now just name your skin and write a snappy description and your off to the voting :)

I did all that but when I hit publish it says "your image file is not sized as a power of 2?" for the tga file. How do I resovle that. And also I see alot of mixed answers for this I understand that for the custom skin to be used by other players it has to have a certain amount of votes but if i just wanna use it for my own sake can I and how do I activate it for myself. Thx you

To get your image file to be sized to a power of 2 it will need to be within the resolution of (4096x2048) (2048x1024) (1024x512) (512x256). Any of these resolutions will work but I would recommend you choose (2048x1024) because that is typically not too big nor too small. To change the resolution go to image then scale image and if there is a chain by the preset resolution click it so it goes apart and then you can put in your desired power of 2.

For the custom skin to be implimented into the marketplace, or to be used by other players or anyone for that matter (including yourself) in an ONLINE game it has to be picked by valve. I am not sure when they will choose the gun designs, how many they will choose or anything like that so we have to wait and see. If you want to use your gun in an OFFLINE game with bots there are steps you can follow to do this and use your your personal design but this can not be used in any online match. I clicked on the chain. But what is the power of two thing.

1600x900 resolution that seems to be the best for my preview images

The power of two is the resolution for the height and width. Just go to image then image size and change the resolution to height=1600 and width=900 this should solve that power of two issue when you try to upload to steam.
