You probably should have messaged your friend to confirm that it was his steam account you were trading with.
Regardless, once you mark a trade as a 'gift' it's gone for good.
Please confirm that you are giving your items away, and expect nothing in return.
A little reading comprehension and critical thinking would stop a lot of these scams from happening.
