With the price of a new MacBook, you could buy a decent gaming PC.
In Whisky or Crossover it is better to use DXVK setting to play CS2. My settings are MSync, DXVK and DXVK Async ON. My CS2 launch option are those: -nojoy -fullscreen -high +cl_forcepreload 1 +r_drawparticles 0 +violence_hblood 0 +mat_disable_fancy_blending 1 +r_dynamic 0 -softparticlesdefaultoff
The most important thing is using Vsync On and Fullscreen in CS2 options and the -nojoy launch option, without it the game keeps crashing, my CS2 Option are everything on low, except Texture on High, FSR Off and AA 2x. Windowed Fullscreen is prone to crashing.
If you have 8 GB model of MacBook Air or Pro, you might need to lower the texture, resolution and use FSR, because Apple Silicon have unified memory that is shared between the system and the iGPU, an 8 GB model might have trouble having enough memory for running the game and for the GPU at higher settings.
I don't want to play games, I only want to play CS which I did before this fkn update to CS2 and can no longer play on my iMac.
I don't want to use workarounds to launch it.
Buying a PC with Windows just for gaming is weird as the rest of the apps and software as well as the OS is better on MacOS.
As a mechanic engineer, I'm prefer Windows than any other OS, because it's easier to develop our CAD software in this OS.
Btw, I built a gaming PC for gaming only. Yep, I have a MacBook, too, but it's for video editing. It's weird that people buy a MacBook for gaming while almost games out there don't even support MacOS.
I don't think it's weird to buy a MacBook for gaming if you don't play a lot of games and the games you play are supported. When I bought my MacBook I was able to play CS:GO, I didn't think they would remove support for a game that was supported for many years.
I don't want to carry two computers, and Ideapad is crap laptop. A good ThinkPad with same screen quality than a MacBook cost more than the MacBook. Anyway, i'm playing on my MacBook with a compatibility layer, so I can still play, just it would be better if it was native so I don't get a performance penalty.
Okay, you could also just get a thinkpad and then install linux on it. CS has a native linux port. It's kinda too late now since you got a macbook but macbook these days are just not a good choice for gaming. Apple just doesn't support it like they should. They aren't even implementing a vulkan solution or anything.
If I wasn't able to play with the compatibility layer, I would have done that. Before I was using Linux and game would release for Mac and not Linux and now that I bought a Mac, game gets release for Linux and not Mac
Lol, yeah the times have really changed.
You can try to play with the bottle settings in Whisky to see if you can get the game to launch.
