whats with the high latency?
I'm experiencing high latency (200-300ms) when playing CS2 using matchmaking. I've restricted connections to games under 50ms, but the problem persists. Oddly, this issue only occurs in CS2; other games have normal ping. Any suggestions?

Press shift + tab and read the server location, is it near your region?

yes, it says its connected to Chicago server and I'm in Texas. I looked again to make sure and this time it was over 1000ms.. It doesn't make any sense.

... i find it rather annoying when people don't know how to measure their ping.
high ping / latency is caused by following factors:

1) distance between you and location

2) bad internet (if you're on wifi, could be interference)

3) your bandwidth is getting used up (if shared internet, ask others if they are watching movies or downloading)

4) if you have low bandwidth to begin with, it might be enough for other games, but not enough for cs2. look in cs2 settings, there's lower bandwidth modes for that specific reason, cuz it requires higher up/down speeds than most games.

5) issues with ISP / internet / router - in UK virginmedia is one of the worst trash ISP, they offer high bandwidth, but it constantly cuts out and has random lag spikes due their poor routers.

6) background downloads on your own PC, if you haven't disabled windows updates, it could be hogging bandwidth. could be other updates aswell, i always disable all auto updates (except for games on steam) and i never have those issues.

i suggest run ping command while playing, if you lag in-game, then check the cmd window and see if ping is stable to google. if it's stable, then at least you can rule out your internet, but i think you'll have high ping there aswell, which indicates to low bandwidth or other connection issues.

Firstly test your ping and internet speed. As for ping test it for 60 seconds. You can find in internet how to do it.
Secondly there is packages loss test to test quality of your internet connection.
If after two tests your conection and ping are okay, write your problem to the technical support of the game.

1. No, I checked; Chicago server shows 29ms.
2. No, I'm using an ethernet cable.
3. No, I'm the only one on the network and watching resource monitor.
4. No, I played just fine last week.
5. No issues on BF2042 and Battlebit; the problem is specific to CS2.

Same issue for me right now. tested for packet loss, 33ms average ping and 0% packet loss. HLL, DayZ, others work fine, great even, but CS2 EVERY match I'm rubberbanding and lagging to the point where it is unplayable. Rocket League works fine, and they gave me hell last year with this! I have upgraded my internet, literally 10x the download speed and 3x upload with less people on it, and the game no longer works.

1. I'm the only one using it and have even disabled my phone's connection.
2. All other games work fine, and windows cmd shows no issues.
3. Other players have verified that they can see me lagging.
4. I have reset everything at least 5 times, and tried moving the router as much as the short cords will allow.
5. I don't have and have not tried ethernet, but ethernet has not and should not be a requirement for anything that has come out in the last 10 years.
6. This ♥♥♥♥ is expensive! I'm paying over a grand a year for internet, and paid games' online content works, but a free one from a gluttonous company can't get its ♥♥♥♥ together?

There is no other explanation other than that it is steam side and not user side. Comcast has verified their upload/downloads, bandwidth, and average response time of my equipment. I've had the game long enough to have paid for it, several times. Make the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing work!

my ping is 90-100 in dota2 and almost all other games around the world as soon as i open cs2 and join a lobby no matter casual / deathmatch / rank ping goes up to 800 and 70 % packet loss . on both dota2 and cs2 .
idk how 1 game destory connection to everything like that
tried other games to see if its the same or not and my ping increased like 5-10 at max
and cs2 download about 40 mb and upload 20 mb
whatever gonna delete the game . no point to waste time on it

I have been having this issue for too long now., looked all over the internet and no solution I am getting to believe game is broken

I used to love CS. CS2 makes it impossible to play due to these issues. Such a shame that there's no solution.
