Knife skin appearance degrading?
I've read somewhere that weapon skins will not degrade over time/use.

However, I have been noticing my m9 bayonet slaughter skin having new scratch marks and such over time...

SCREENSHOTS (Click on the image again after clicking the thumbnail to zoom in further):

When I first got the knife (notice how there's barely any marks):

What it looks like now (notice the 2 circle scratches near the hole at the top of the knife):

And the remaining scratch marks (more are revealed under shade):

I rarely ever get knife kills. I do, however, tend to run around and knife walls and such after winning a round for the sake of it. I'm assuming this is the cause?

Maybe you should take screenshots of your knife now in aztec and not dust 2

Fortunately, I also have a screenshot of it when i first had it in dust2. I've replaced the screenshots so that they are all in dust 2 now.

Probably updated the textures, they did that with the default skins in the past without saying anything

No it's not.

well that's a way of just showing off. Weapon skins don't decay, how would that be fair to people who get factory new skins and have to rebuy them afterwards? Just makes no sence

Can anyone confirm if there was a skin update? I noticed a very strage thing in my collection... Weapons in my collection differ in quality from those defined in the market. For example Glock Sand Dune (field tested) from my collection looks worse (between field tested and well worn!) than field tested from market. My has many extra scratch marks while new Sand Dune Glock almost looks like new!

Yesterday I won Nova Forest Leaves (field tested) while I already have in collection such Nova in same quality. But the appearance of dropped sking is much worse from the one I have, and they got the same quality, while the dropped looks much worse.

I can say the same thing about many other weapons, gun appearance of the same quality then and now has changed!

I was suspecting weapon degradation but there is no such thing here. In my opinion there's been a "silent" skin update and almost all of my skins come from august/october and differ from guns offered now :/

That is really weird because some weapons (novemeber) of one quality look actually better/worse than guns from past.

I also got few 'same' weapons, but looking different. Luckily I don't care, but this is rather a bug than a feature and should get fixed. Maybe in a few weeks as there are some things more important, but I guess valve will look at this in time.

Here is an image of P90 Glacier. Both field tested.

First one. Bought this one in August

Second one. Newly offered

The second one looks almost like OUT OF THE BOX compared to the first one :/

So there are a few types of degradation in one level of quality? Strage, I haven't noticed that earlier having a few copies of the same weapon in same quality.

Hmmm, I'll need to examine the knife more closely. Trade it to me, and I'll see what I find out.

Im gonna bump this up.

I am starting to notice new scratches on my AK Vulcan MW and my AWP Asiimov.

Im starting to think they may degrade a little bit over time

I noticed my second p250 supernova was much more cooler than the first one.

This would cause an outrage amongst the rare skin collectors who pour a huge amount of money into skins based on condition/pattern. Are you absolutely sure those scratches weren't already there?

Well that's because every skin has a different pattern. Inspecting the skin in game can show you what it really looks like, instead of just looking at the market picture (which are all the same condition-wise). I am completely 100% certain that patterns do not change.

who knows there are a lot of the things valve doesn't release or give notice to the users when they make changes, good example is when they no longer gave some field tested items minimal wear icon to distinguish the difference. no notice or log given.

Have to say the same...

I noticed new scratch marks on my AUG Hot Rod. When I bought this skin almost a year ago, it only had a a few scrach marks near the edges. Now I've been playing with different AUg skin and gues what... Hot Rod got new scratch marks that were not present earlier. Also some of my FT weapons from older collections look like BS rather than FT :/ I was careful when tried to buy these less used FT's, now got this. Seriously Valve?

I don''t think weapon skins get older, I think that Valve is messing with skin textures to make thing look much more wear for some reason :/ I think that some people would like to get rid of their skins that have been recently - "aged by Valve" and get better looking ones. Valve makes more profit because of this.

Yep, that the thing Valve just silently updated the weapon textures
