Sawed Off shotgun "buy" command isn't working

This is what is working for me:

bind "kp_downarrow" "buy mag7;buy sawedoff;"

This binds buying the MAG-7 (CT) / the Sawed Off Shotgun (T) to the 2 (Numpad) key.

If its internal name sawedoff is not working for you, there is some other problem.

I guess the key you wanted to use to buy the sawedoff is already in use.

-> Search your autoexec.cfg / config.cfg for already assigned keys.
Try binding a key which is certainly not assigned already, like maybe Enter.

I write "buy sawedoff" command in command console and get a list of buy command possible arguments as thought I typed something like "buy peanuts". Strangely enough, "sawedoff" is in the list still.

No misstype: I typed it like a zilion times, copy/pasted from different places and from the console list itself. With other buy commands all works well, at least those I tried and binded already like "buy vesthelm"

Problem seems to be much deeper

PS. Yes, I did check "alias", just in case. There are no aliases issued
PPS. Yes, I know that sawed off shotgun is only available to Terrorist

You can just use "buy mag7". Likewise, you can use "buy tec9" to buy the Five-Seven as CT, etc.
