How many hours does it usually take to get good?
Long story short, I've played 30 hours and I still REALLY suck, even after reading tons of tips online, and I would like to know how many hours it takes to actually pick up any amount of actual skill at the game.

Well, after playing a lot in cs 1.6, the thing is that hours don't matter, but how the hours are spent matter. If you are looking to improve skill (obviously), follow these four tips for STARTING your practice.
1)Look with your crosshair. Don't move your eyes from the center of the screen, the cross hair. If you have to look sideways, move your cross hair NOT your eyes. This way, aiming will be faster.
2)At first, try to stick with your team mates the most. This way, you can be calm, since there are low chances of death within a second, and you can properly aim and shoot.
3)Stay calm. But don't fret. Fretting about staying calm, is not staying calm. Many a times in cs 1.6, when the opponent strafes (moves sideways, stops, shoots, continues moving, repeats)I used to lose my mind and start shooting like hell. No, aim and shoot. Or use your instinct, but calmly.
4)Lastly, don't continue pressing the fire button. Stop, give the poor button some rest. You probably know about recoil, so shoot a few bullets (depending on gun 2-5), pause shooting, wait for recoil to end or go 90% out, then shoot again.

Follow just these 4 tips for some time, then proceed to more professional techniques.
it's different for everyone, some people are talented and some need to train hard for it. I'm average so i will need more time than others, but also less time than some people.

I was master guardian 2 and i've played 100 hours, but i moved down to nova master now.

yes. and if you only play with/ against same skilled players like you, you wont learn much. learn the places of the maps so you can report your team where the enemy is and REPORT. low skilled players tends not to pay attention of the radar or they just dont care. maybe some of them will react when you inform enemys location via team speak. also it helps you if you can get people to back you up. and say where you did get shot to dead from..

and if you can motivate your team to do some save/eco rounds( you dont buy crappy smg:s with no kevlar so you can buy a better weapon next round) it helps too..

oh and follow the bomb.

Nice post, ty dude.
30 hours is like nothing^^ Though it is hard to put it in numbers. Rather maybe in years where I'd say that you need at least one year to actually reach middle skill.

After 700 hours of CS:GO, I'm Distinguished Master Guardian. But I'm playing with 40 FPS. If i could play with 200+ FPS, I think I would be around Legendary Eagle master.

Yes and more tips for you, somewhat advanced :
1) Be on the go. Don' pause (called camping). The idea is to keep the opponent guessing where you are. As told above by the good guy, if someone tells where they died, and you camp at the place, then you'll have chances of being run down.
2)Learn your map. If you know the usual hiding/camping places, you can check them in less than a second while passing through, saving you from campers. You should know how to move and stuff.
3)Playing with bots, you should first play at the lowest level. When your kill to death ratio is 5:1 , move on to the next difficulty. Its easy at first, but difficult later on.
4)Follow the bomb, but don't run out in the open like a dumb dude. If you know there is someone out there, throw a flash. This is what makes the next tip.
5)Learn to use grenades and secondaries and guns. If you do, you'll probably get more kills and better tactics. Also, learn your gun. In cs 1.6, the best guns are m4a1 and ak47, and both of them are useless if you use more than 2-3bullets in succession.
6)Look behind. After every some steps, obviously checking if there aren't some corners or stuff in front of you, look behind or left and right for possible enemies comign from behind you. This is why you need to know your map. Its stupid to look behind when you should be looking in front of you.

I never played cs:go, so I don't know anything about these ranks or stuff. Anyways, these are somewhat advanced, first do the beginners and then these.

Depends on the player. I have a 1000+ hours, but since this is my first CS and I didn't really know how to practice effectivly for the first half of my playtime Im still only a mediocre player.

Don't get caught up in the statistics of it all, focus more on how you preform and how to improve.
3t Dec 13, 2013 @ 4:21am
Sometimes you get a headache and just don't feel like playing
Cooperal Dec 13, 2013 @ 4:24am
Depends. There's no avoiding the hundreds of hours. Even then you won't stop seeing gradual improvements now and then.

You can speed up significantly by doing your research. Find facts and use youtube.

Depends on your natural skill. there is no time limit on skill, it all depends on what you want to put into it.

And keep in mind that even the best players have their off days where they play like ****.
