If you have the hybrid mode disabled or no additional onboard graphics, check to see if there's any drivers you can update.
lower your fps to your mhz on your screen see how it goes.
.. because you're running unlocked fps, that's why.
games are not meant to be played in unlocked, because unlocked framerate is for STRESS TESTING and BENCHMARKING purposes only!
are you stress testing your PC or benchmarking your GPU for some benchmaking website?
if answer is NO, then why you running unlocked for?
unlocked framerate is equivilant to driving your car in 1st gear, with engine revved to the max and using only clutch to regulate speed, then wondering why engine and clutch are overheating and why clutch wears out within a week.
this is literally what you're doing to your PC, no surprised you're getting unstable performance.
i play in 1440p 60fps with GTX 1080 and my GPU usage is only 20-30% and temp is below 50c.
i don't know what is this trend among nowday players that everyone wants to wreck their PC.
it is common sense that framerate should always be locked to what your monitor can support.
reason why it drops to 2 digits, is EXACTLY because of unlocked. your PC is under constant 100% load and at some point some background process or part of game requires more power and this is where your PC bottlenecks / throttles and "takes" power from whatever causes the lag.
it's like trying to run 2 cars using same engine, while one car is constantly using 100% power and when other car needs to do anything at all, then that power has to come from that engine that is already under 100% load. this will cause a spike and mess things up.
same principle applies with computers, when your system is already under 100% load due unlocked fps and then PC needs power for anything else at all, then it has to draw that power from somewhere, which is why it stutters your game and you get bad performance.
you are mis-using your computer, that's why you get poor performance.
