Is there a real life counterpart to the AWP?
Most of the guns in this game exist in the real world too.The only one i'm not sure about is the AWP.

It's a real gun, but the in-game model is an AWM. There are a couple of guns that have the wrong name or model, like the M4A4 which is a Mk18 and AK-47 which is an AKM.

I actually knew what it stood for but i was just wondering if it's real.I'm surprised it does.It just looks fake for some reason.Don't know why.

The m4a4 is an m4 carbine in real life not a mk18. and the ak47 not an akm.

i always thought the m4a4 was just a model created by valve because they couldnt get the licenses for anymore guns, the m4a4 always looked so strange to be an m4 rifle.
yes, the AWP
Yes. it's modeled after the NATO/european .338 Lapua Magnum long range sniper round.

It is odd that the game devs picked it over the much better/powerful .50 Barrett M82 that the US military uses.

the AWP in CS:GO is actually an AWM, but they named it the AWP. It is based on the L96A1 chambering 7.62 x51 NATO (also called .308 win), which would be an AWP if they would've modelled it after the correct firearm. The one in the game chambers .338 Lapua magnum, which would be the arctic warfare magnum (having a green stock, longer barrel and chambering .338 Lapua) instead of the arctic warfare police (having a black stock, a slightly shorter barrel and chambering .308 win (7.62 x 51 NATO)). Also the MK18 is just the M4A4 with a slightly shorter barrel. the MK18 has a 262mm (10.3in) barrel compared to the M4's (14.5in) barrel. The main difference between AK47 and AKM is the use of stamped sheet metal for the receiver. This makes the AKM both lighter and less costly to produce than the machined receiver of the AK47. My guess is that the AK47 would be a bit sturdier though.
