Recommended internet speed to play CS?
How much internet speed is required to play a decent Counter-Strike match online?
I live on an Island and there's only 1 ISP. The average download speed is around 40KBp/s, is that good enough?

When I checked how much speed you need, it was only around 20KB/s for playing. It just might take awhile to connect

Edit: What is your upload speed?

What other games can you play? CS:GO uses one of the most basic engines to run on

I can play with capped internet, download speed is about 30kbps at that moment. I use an Ethernet Cable though. so the connection is stable.

(Not sure what I am talking about but..) You might be able to buy a plug-in internet connection, from a USB, might give faster speeds.
You need stable internet (Speed doesn't really matter, around 30 kb/s is enough already)
I got stable internet, although according to some speed test i got 170-175 mb/s :p
(Go Netherlands go)

I would like to thank to everyone for the help.
And in reply to 'KOS Nobody Perfect' I quote "What other games can you play?"
I can usually play Dota 2 and EVE online perfectly. For other triple A games such as BF3 and BF4, it's really laggy.

Thanks for testing GDI, it looks like I might buy CS.
a 256kb stable connection will do the same as a 100mb stable connection, the ping is only about your distance from the server and not the download/upload speed

Quote. Download speed counts marginally. Focus only on your ping.

Probably 500k to 1 MB will do fine, but youll have to test it.
If your download is 400k (mean 40k real) your upload probably is really bad, so youll have to test it. :csgoa:

i am using a 16k internet connection limited by 10 meter wlan (interrupts due weather weather like rain, snow, fog included) and i got a ~50ms speed connection. in the case you are young and got extrem fast reactions i would recommend a cable internet (32k-64k) just because of the stability of the connection and the lower ping times. if you are just a normal casual player then a 3-6k internet is fine ... just for playing i mean

5-10 mb/s

I got a 100kb/s download (<3 german telekom.. >.>) and its barely even playable, my normal ping is about 60-80 (what you see in the scoreboard is NOT the ping, your real ping is always higher, enter "ping" in the console and you'll see) and it spikes up to 500-1000 like at least 30 minutes per hour.

3 Mbps is fine for low graphics rigs!
