Why is it every game I get put into a team that literally is 10x worse than my opposition, which normally is composed of at least 1 or more smurf accounts with around 20 hours of gameplay? I didn't mind it so much when I was a Silver Elite Master, but now that I'm varying between MG II and MGE, it's becoming way too frequent for my likes to even be arsed to play the game in the first place. All I wanted to be was a DMG. I see very few smurfs in that skill ranking, and if they are smurfs, they're pretty much always of equal skill level, or a miniscule amount better which I greatly accept them for at least not being a Global Elite or something.
I know lots of people say "Oh well see it as a way to improve your gameplay." Easier said than done, and it's old news. How am I supposed to get better just by looking at someone's gamestyle? Sure I can memorize it all I want, but I won't be able to ever apply it with all the smurfs that are way better than that level of skill. I actually had a few of the smurfs I lost to admit that they were either Eagle ranks, or Global Elite. I believed it as these were the same people going 40+ frags a game with less than 20 deaths. It's just not fun playing CS:GO anymore with the ridiculous win/loss ratio. I'd rather play Team Fortress 2, which I hate equally.
I know it was just a Steam sale, but honestly it's like Valve is plain out flipping off the legit players that want to play with their similar skilled ranks, and not against cheaters with these 3$ Steam sales. It's pretty much saying 'We value money more than our player base.' People admitted to buying over a dozen copies of CS:GO on forums and posted pictures of gameplay on multiple accounts. It was probably the most sad sight I've ever seen in my entire life.
Regardless. Everyone in my position, what is your opinion on the smurfing and hacking situations? (Yes I play with a DMG friend a lot, and have versed blatant hackers.) I'm saying this for all the people that don't want to because I've just about had it losing every single game because someone doesn't have the balls to accept their derank versing their own rank. My friend literally has no problem deranking, he still has the same skill after derank. So why the hell can he not easily just earn his rank back? Oh wait. He can. What a shocker.
In the end, I'm pretty sure Valve is just enforcing smurfing because of the sales, where I can literally buy a copy of CS:GO for 1 Team Fortress 2 key, which is literally $2.50. Less than what it's sold for on Steam sales. My christ. What is this? I'm just sayin that smurfs are creating problems in MM, flooding overwatch with false reports, making the game unbearable for people like me, and it pretty much is cheating. "Wait what? Cheating? No it isn't..." It is. My definition of cheating is by doing something that gives you a completely unfair advantage above all others, in return giving the cheater a reward. If smurfing doesn't fit that definition perfectly, call it cheating then.
...
But oh well, Steam sales right? Let me just stock up 40 copies of CS:GO.
TL;DR, smurfing sucks. It ruins the entire MM and game. Please cut back on it. What are your opinions? Wall text posts are awesome.
Oh, and give me some of your ideas to help fix it if Valve were to fix smurfing, like making them play 50 hours of Casual or something before joining Competitive matches. "What if they idle?" Auto kick them. Simple. Stuff like that, I really want to hear it. I've seen some pretty good ideas, and I want to see what more people have to offer!
Same. I can handle a smurf from game to game, but recently I've been on such a losing streak because of them, I've quit the game altogether. I'm going back to TF2 until the sale smurfs get banned, ranked, and all that crap. I'm surprised at this post though. Was expecting some kind of troll post. Thanks for the legit reply.
Recently I found a few people to party with around the same rank. That sorta helps the smurfs get cut down, but sometimes it can mean the exact opposite of the desired outcome...
I wouldn't say hacking is more of a problem than smurfing is. Valve could implement a solution to Hacking easily if they actually thought about it.
Yea well, somehow he has to climb the ladder.
Your comparison is kinda bad. You can't compare the things you've said.
why do i smurf? target practice, playing with low ranked freinds, aim warmup, in game drops & trolling
now to counter your argument, if i play with my friends on my main, i would lose alot of games which will cause my to derank which means i will be placed in a skill group alot lower than my actual skill. now isnt that the same as smurfing?
for example my main gets deranked from lem to mge just from playing with silvers, when i go to solo queue it will be unfair for the other mges in my games.
Do you see Mike Tyson beating up 15-years old kids in a boxing ring? I think that comparison is perfectly relevant. Those who smurf don't want to play against the people as skilled as or more skilled than themselves. Instead of that they want to "have fun" playing against people who have no match against them. Why don't they just go play casual or against bots?
I'm surprised that this thread had 6 comments while I was gone.
Update: currently I am DMG, and should be hitting Eagle sooner or later, as I've had every single game within around 2 weeks at least contain 1 Eagle and 1 LEM, so I'm assuming I'll get Eagle soon.
Regardless, your comment does not make me happy to know that you own 5 different ranked accounts. DM is for target practice, and you don't need a smurf for that. Low ranked friends, just play with them. I played with my silver and nova friends all the time and I still have yet to derank. Also, seeing that you have an account just for trolling makes me disgusted with you. It's competitive, not casual. There's a huge difference and you'll probably get placed in a griefer lobby with other griefers. Farming game drops is also lame; it's pretty much raking in free money in a cheap way, and exploiting the game system.
Also, when you mentioned your main getting deranked from LEM to MGE, it's rare (I'm pretty sure even impossible) to derank thrice in one going. You'd have to be on a steady decline of bad gameplay and losing to low ranks to go from LEM to MGE. Even thus, you'd still be on the higher tier of MGE. Ranks are not counted as just that one rank.
Say for instance, you are a DMG. You are a fresh out-of-the-water DMG. This will be your first game playing DMG. You will be paired with some MGE's and some DMG's. A majority of them being MGE's. Why? Because you have just ranked up to DMG from being MGE, thus the game is counting you as being a bit higher level than MGE, therefore you are a DMG.
In the end, you extremely exagerated the effects of deranking, unless you're one of the loser people that actually deranks to do said event. You don't simply go from being LEM to MGE in one blow friend, that's not how the ELO system works. Deranking and being placed in a 'lower skill level' will never happen. You will always be facing some opponent with equal skill. The MGE's you play with when I explained my fresh out-of-the-water DMG situation will be the MGE's that are close to ranking up to DMG.
There is no reason for smurfing but to ruin the game for other players unfairly.
Am I the only DMG that doesn't care about my rank, and will queue with 4 other silvers? Because guess what, I've done it before.
