Does abandoning hurt your rank?
I'm sure it does some how-- I'm new to CS:GO and after only 36 wins I got myself up to Silver Elite. For some, this may not be a great thing-- But for me, I'm proud of myself (laugh it up). Especially b/c I rarely play FPS's, so it was a big deal for me. That's not the point. Earlier today I joined a competitive game of a bunch of trolls. No joke. They were all from the same clan and they ran around doing random ♥♥♥♥ on purpose. They wouldn't kick me, and no one left so I couldn't vote to surrender.

Obvi-- I left.

I have a 24 hour ban. Does this hurt my rank? If so, does it hurt it MORE so then let's say-- Losing? Thanks!

Apparently you take double the lose. not sure about it though.
Never abandon no matter how bad it is, and never surrender as its double the lose.

Damn. Won't leave again. It's just, my whole team was trolling and screwed around. Thanks for the info! Won't leave again!

just report Trolls so Overwatch can review the match ... if they were killing themselves, standing at AFK or TKing they'll get banned and your stats pre-match will be restored

always play out the match, it lessens the blow

This hasn't been confirmed. Has anyone ever been deranked after abandoning? Abandoning may not even hurt your ELO Rating for all I know. The only thing we officially know is that it results in a temporary ban.

Like I said, I'm not sure about it.

Sometimes leaving a troll game is worth it. Watch out with abandoning now, next time within a week it will be 7 days. :)

When you have trolls on your team, report them for griefing so Overwatch can ban them

Abandoning is almost the same as saying i want to get deranked. Especially if you are new to the game and have a low rank. just dont do it cause i learned my lesson.

hmm I was deranked when I was in Silver 4 because I got disconnected x_x I couldn't reconnect so I was forced to abandon :(

Edit: Also don't think of yourself too badly just because your a silver elite. :D

Trust me-- I never abandon, and I won't again. My bad. But is isin't confirmed de-ranking can be caused by abandoning. I'm stuck here with logic. Your rank represents your skill level, abandoning isn't necessarily showing lack of skill, it just shows you left.

It would make more sense that the rank depends on how well you play, and if you leave you're hurt with a cooldown.

I mean think of it this way: Your rank helps put you in a skill group. If you were to de-rank others for leaving-- You're putting a better player in a lower skill group-- Thus defeating the purpose of having a skill group to start out with (because you're putting higher players in lower player games).

I would make sense logically that Performance ---> Rank and Abandon ---> Cooldown. Not interchangeable.

Any other opinions?

I see what you mean. But its more of a punishment for leaving the game you know? I still find it stupid. Just as stupid as surrendering. I got deranked for surrendering and i havent been promoted since then.

Not to necro, but to answer the question for those who search in the future. Abandoned after getting a troll team that wanted to derank. My rank was still SEM and I had my 30m cooldown. Came back next day to find im now SE. Amount of wins did not change, so the only reasonable answer is abandoning either counts as a loss or the games outcome still effects my rank.

You can still derank if your team lose, however if they win you will gain the same amount of elo points that you would've if you actually played :)
sanshinron Feb 16, 2015 @ 3:39pm
I don't think abandoning does anything to your ELO rating. The only things that count are round win/loss and mvp. If you leave a match when your team is loosing, you can derank because you lost more rounds than you won before leaving and not because of abandoning. I've actually ranked up on abandoned match (my team was winning, I've got disconnected in 13th round because of the power surge and when started csgo later I was on higher rank), which supports my view. The same goes for the surrender I think - if you surrender on 0:8 it won't hurt your rating as bad as loosing 0:16.
