Anyone know how to fix a "This game requires STEAM..." Error on startup?

I swear to god I hate this damn update system and all of these stupid updates. So the other night I got a new one. After the update I clicked on the CS:GO icon and it took me to a black screen and then proceeded to have the balls to tell me that "This game required STEAM in order to play it..."

Wow. I NEVER knew that. I always wondered why STEAM always launches FIRST (just like the other night RIGHT BEFORE I got this error...) so huh, go figure, I never knew that. No really. Tell me something I do not know.

I have to play the game for at least 45 minutes once I get in to make me forget all of the waiting and updating and server messages and MOTD and just, STUPID errors that I have had to overcome BEFORE getting to play. So when I get an error that makes my screen go black while telling me that I need to have steam in order to play it (while steam is now sitting in the system tray on the lower right of my XP machine) it just really infuriates me.

Seriously, if you are going to release partial games and expect to just do little things to fix or update them then please release a finished product AND STOP MESSING WITH IT.

This was a perfect example of something NOT being broken, but getting "fixed" anyways. Now I can not play the game and all of the messages that I hunted down took me back to 2013 and 2012 or 2011.

WHY does this have to happen? Okay, I do not have to know WHY but if anyone knows how to fix it then please SHARE. I need my drug.

I told steam to verify the game files or something and THAT did not do it. It restarted the game and I still get a black screen with this stupid message. SOMEONE suggested changing the game ID to 10. So I did and that brought up regular CS. My CS 1.6 days are over and I did not care to d/l 146MB for it.

So anyways, if anyone has any ideas, please share them.

I am running Windows XP with 4GB of ram (yeah yeah 3.2...) and an nVidia 570 GT and EVERYTHING WAS WORKING FINE BEFORE THIS STUPID MANDATORY 5 MINUTE UPDATE... <shaking head>

simple. log in and out of steam :D choose change user and then log back into ur account. should fix the problem

BRB... I am sorry. That did not work. I started CS:GO, then let it give me the error, then closed out of the game, then went to the steam icon, then up to my name, I told it to change user, it seemed to exit and restart itself, Then I logged in again, then started CS:GO and it took me right back to the same error. So I exited out of everything and restarted CS:GO and it did the same thing. Sorry. That did not work.

SWEET! I found the issue and the fix! Despite certain TROLLS out there that like to accuse others of having pirated games, well, none have shown up here yet but not only is their logic flawed but they are full of crap.

This fix seems to work because NOW the game is working again:

After you get the error, Go to Task Manager and Open it, click on STEAM and choose CLOSE.

Then, Go reopen your game. Steam will FIX itself by updating itself and then your game should work.

This is CAUSED by an UPDATE not fully updating STEAM before it finishes I guess. SEE??? I WAS ON TO SOMETHING! IF IT AINT FREAKING BROKE STOP TRYING TO FIX IT EVERY OTHER FREAKING DAY! No scuse me, I gotta go lay waste to a lot of poor little kids that don;t know it yet, but they have irritated me...

Nobody did say that, that was for an old thread I found from 2013 that had some foolz saying that it was because you had pirated your game... ;) I could not figure out how to post in it so I put it here. because it seems that idiots like that show up all the time. Just like when you go to a forum and ask how to fix a PC problem and some jackass ALWAYS pops in and says "BUY A MAC!" and then you never hear from him again. I wish uncurable lung cancer on themz. :D j/k, I wish uncurable throat cancer on em instead. ;)
