What does "float" mean?
I go onto the lounge regularly to bet and trade, Very frequently I look at offers and trade post and half the time it will say "mine is 0.021 float" or "you need to overpay because its 0.230 float".

What is a "float?" A type of condition? pattern?

Would like to know.

EDIT: As people like to keep informing me, yes. I 100% understand float values and percentages. This posted was created over a year and a half ago. Please, let the dead thread die

EDIT2: Keep the thread going forever. Its Eternal.

I dont know about the Steam market usage but in real world markets 'float' is the amount / percentage of commodity available for trading at any given time. A commodity with higher float means more of it is being bought and sold and price movements are slower and more fluid.

Less float is used to mean stuff for which demand and supply is relatively lesser. Lower float shares expereince higher sudden price movements.

Float refers to the wear of the skin. For example a factory new skin can be between 0.00 and 0.07 float, 0.00 being absolutely perfect condition, and 0.07 on the lower end of factory new (usually results in some visible wear such as scratches).
Hope this explains it a bit, check skins on csgostash or steamanalyst to see clear examples.
E.g.: http://csgostash.com/skin/354/AK-47-Vulcan

Guys go use csgostash site, u can see the minimum and maximum floats of each skin. It really differs from skin to skin, so same float on diff skins arent as good as others.

google it

"Float" is a term used to represent how worn an item is into more detail. It helps players pick items more precisely as it shows the exact amount of wear an item has on it. You may understand by now after all the comments received, but the lower the float, the nicer the weapon looks, and the less worn it looks.
