Must gain at least 'Private Rank 3' CS:GO Profile Rank. Is this a joke?
I have 800 hours, I don't want to get any private rank 3. I just got home from work, I'm tired, I want to play the game.

Is this serious? This is the update?

UPDATE: Just played a casual game for 84 xp, can't wait to play another 50 of these. The rest of the update looks great, tho. I'm sorry I can't play cs:go every single day of my life valve, thanks for this, really.

Silver is still a skill group, just means those players have to get to rank 3 as well. This was never meant to be a skill barrier, but a time barrier so people can't just buy a new account and jump straight into competitive after their previous account has been vac banned. When you plan on playing on one account you have to go through it once, which isn't that annoying. It's meant to be annoying when done a couple of times, which is what the hackers will have to do. And if you really can't afford 6 hours of your time, there's other ways to play competitive that's not on Valve's servers. So either way you look at it, it's a good solution by Valve.

Not in the least is it a good solution.

Other people used the arguement of it as a way to ensure that new players didnt 'ruin' competetive games. I simply refuted that arguement.

Going through it once is annoying. I dont want to waste hours of my time doing something i dont enjoy at all. I dont play a huge amount of CSGO, i only ever really played it in competetive with friends for 2 or 3 hours a week so spending 6 hours just to be able to play something i only enjoy intermittently is just silly.

I paid for a game, there should be no time barrier to anything in it. This is not a free to play game or even a subscription game - it is a normal game. The idea that parts of a game i have bought should be inaccessible to me is frankly ridiculous.

I dont want to go fishing around the server browser and, though i havent played them, ill bet that these other ways of playing competetive are not the same because if they were then why would they exist? They will undoubtedly have some elements which are different and which i may dislike.

Besides which my friends would not agree to play casual or any custom servers no matter even if they were supposedly the same because the competetive matchmaking is the most convenient and popular way to play this game. CSGO is terrible in solo-que and this ham fisted arbitrary barrier has essentially killed the game for me.

Regardless of any of this, the new barrier does nothing to prevent smurfs, hackers or anything else it is claimed to do. Smurfs will have no qualms investing 6 hours into an alternate account because, firstly, they probably have too much time on their hands and secondly, they dont get banned. You cannot be banned for being good at the game regardless of whether or not it is a smurf because that is not going to be proven by anyone and it isnt against the ToS to simply have a second account. So for the smurf, it is a one time investment just like me.

For hackers there is an arguement but there are not many hackers in CSGO. Myself, i dont have immense playtime, 150 hours is nothing compared to some people, but my friends have also had no real issue with hackers and a number of them have well over 1000 hours. Besides which, better anti-cheat would be the best and completely non-intrusive way to solve this problem. If hackers were caught immediately then there would be absolutely no hacking because there simply couldnt be. While this is easy to say and hard to do valve has the resources and the incentive to do so since VAC is used across all their games (it also isnt like theyre the most prolific company so they cant be all that busy).

After a long break I wanted to play some competitive CSGO again and well... I first have to play like 100 casual games or whatever before I'm allowed to play it again, even though I have 500+ competitive wins already and 1k+ hours of gametime.

So in my opinion, this is absolutely ridiculous and complete bs. I seriously urge Valve to revert this back immediately unless they want a big chuck of players to quit this game.

On the contrary, this decision is utterly stupid and will chase away a lot of players. No, I indeed don't want to spend 6 hours or even more on having to prove myself that I am not a hacker. It is a waste of my time, and in the time that I can play, I want to genuinely play and not do any preparatory work or proving or anything else that doesn't make me enjoy my playing time to the fullest.

And seriously, how many people hack in this game, get banned, and repurchase the game? This is an incredibly tiny portion of the total playerbase, where in the end the fair-playing people get punished. Also those that then repurchase the game already have their punishment, namely that everytime they purchase it again, it costs them money. Doesn't that after a few times also get annoying? So like I said this measure was completely unnecessary and must be reverted at once if Valve wants to keep players like me in this game.

If you can't afford 6 hours to get rank 3, play faceit or any of the hundreds of competitive community servers.

You know what, there's plenty of other games where I don't have to waste 6 hours of time before I can play properly at all.

Exactly.

I've been playing CS ever since it was a largely unknown, tiny little mod for Half Life. For 15 years I've been playing CS, and I loved every second of it. It was my go-to game when I had a free hour or so to waste, and sometimes I played it all weekend. Hell, at one point I even adminned my own server with my own clan.

But that was many years ago, and I'm not a kid anymore. I have a job, responsibilites and lots of things to do, and as much I'd sometimes would like to, I simply cannot just sit down and play games all day. Between my job and all the rest, I'm lucky to get a few hours of gametime a WEEK, including weekends. But even now, up until this point, a few times a month me and a couple of friends, when we could all get off work early, would grab a few beers, get together and play a few games of CS.

Now we can't do that anymore. Neither of us have the time to grind for weeks upon weeks to get to some arbitrary level where the system would allow us to play the game we were playing for 15 FRIGGIN YEARS! I never liked this new "casual" confusing mayhem mode, and my free time is extremely valuable now, I simply can't and won't spend it doing something I don't want to.

CS was a really great game for 15 years. Too bad it had to end like this.

Indeed. It just sucks. I started playing cs on beta 1.0 15 years ago as well. I had periods in my life where i was really playing alot. But now i got 15 years older and i cant play that much as i would like.
For me my playing times are periodically. Sometimes i dont have the time to play even for month. Sometimes i have more times and play for two weeks ~5h/day.
I think I didnt play CS:GO in the last three months or so. Today I had some time, some cs buddies were online and I wanted to play 3-4 matches.
But than I saw this new rank stuff. I played one single arms race and got 50 xp. I need 10k xp to get to rank 3, which makes about 200 games...
Now I figured out that casual games give like 4x the xp but this are still 50 games I would have to play in my little spare time which I absolutely don not enjoy. Infact I really hate it and i know I will never do that.

So after playing cs for 15 years, playing CS:GO for ~540h and have ~320 competitive ranks, doing some overwatches from time to time, I get screwed just for not playing in the period where u where able to play comp matches to lvl up that private rank in reasonable amount of time.

And lets face it: People wo have like multiple smurfs play hours every single day. They care much less about this private rank stuff.
Maybe Valve should just stop to put CS:GO in sale after sale and spread out keys for a few bucks?

Basically, this. I watched CS evolve from 1.1 to 1.5 and the golden 1.6, then the sh!t that was Condition Zero, all the way through CSS and now GO. During this epic journey I watched features and game modes come and go, the dev(s) added some great things, along with exceptionally stupid things, but the core gameplay never really changed from 1.0 til now. "5 people on 2 teams, go stop the enemy from doing their objective". It was the tinking man's shooter game for tactics and skill. If I wanted to play some twitch-shooter in absolute mayhem, I would play Quake or UT, but CS was always different. I also admit I always played for fun and I never wanted to be a pro player. While everyone is camping with M4/AK/AWP, I'm the idiot who runs around with the shotgun like a maniac :D Even in the new ranking system I only hovered around Gold Nova 3, and I was absolutely fine with that. And even though I found it stupid and cheap cash-in at first, I kinda got used to the rainbow colored guns with the death-counter.

But this, I will not swallow. Putting the game (now called Competitive mode or whatever) behind a grind-wall, turning CS into some tamagochi farmville nonsense with XP and weekly boosts and forced bullsh!t game modes. If I wanna play CS, I wanna play CS, and not screw around for weeks doing what I hate. "Ain't nobody got time for that".

Oh, and don't try to tell me this is a measure against cheaters and "smurfs" (whatever that is), because that's just BS. In my experience, for 15 years we had no problem dealing with hackers and cheaters. Just voteban/IP-ban them, and that's it. On the servers I was frequenting back in the day, we always made short work of cheaters, trolls and a$$holes, we never needed arbitrary grind-walls and forced BS like this...

Old games of CS never had matchmaking. You're complaining that CSGO is now "bad" because you're locked out of playing matchmaking, for ~6 hours, when that never existed for the other 12 years of your playtime within CS. You're still free to play on community servers, or faceit, cevo etc. Your arguement makes no sense whatsoever.
Geodesic 4. juli 2015 kl. 1:28
Yeah I pretty much refuse to play this game till they sort this out.
I sent them a complaint email and I was pretty disappointed to see that they didn't even read what I had said and had just copied/pasted a generic response. For someone who has had steam pretty much since release and who has spent more money than I care to imagine on their platform, I found this pretty disappointing. Volvo pls.

You dont get the point..

1. It is not ~6hours we are locked it. We are locked out until we reach rank 3
2. Reaching rank 3 takes more than 6h. I have just played a casual, got 95xp. The game took ~20mins. To get 10.000 xp to hit lvl 3 this sums up to 35h of casual games. For people wo can play like 3-4h per week, this means 10 weeks playing casual games. A game mode that makes no fun at all over 10 weeks where you dont play any other game. When you dont have the time to play 8h a day this is absolutely inaccaptable.
3. Casual games, DM, arms race, demolition just SUCK. I dont want to be forced to spend any single minute in those modes.
4. People wo dont work 50h/week, have a family they spend time with and can play 8h/day pretty much dont care about this rank restriction for their smurfs. And those are mainly the people wo are smurfing.
5. Why should I grind anyhting to show I am suited for competetive after i have 320 comp wins already? After I was playing competetive the last 2.5 years?
6. CS is a team game. I only play it when I have 5 ppl avaible I was playing cs with for years, some for more than a decade. For sure I will not play casuals with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiots I dont want to play with.
7. I want to use the MM and not Faceit etc because it is much easier. No need for additional registration/tool/things to care about.
8. Try to imagine how this feels like for somebody who can not play 40h+ per week like you do. I was playing that much 10 years ago as well. But things change when u get older (at least when u dont ♥♥♥♥ up ur life completly).

I do get the intention of this change to make it less attractive for smurfs and cheaters. But I think it misses the point for the smurfs and valve should be able to handle cheaters in a different way.
The best way to not have so many smurfs come up would have been not to put cs:go in every sale and throw away new keys for a prize less than a six pack of beer...

They could have implemented a registration with your personal ID, so only one cs:go account per person would be granted. They even would have taken care of cheaters and smurfs by this much more efficient. Really want to risk the only cs:go account you can get in your life by spinbotting?

Actually I never cared about smurfs anyway. We were playing in pretty skill mixed team anyway. We have silver IV to global elite in my pool of cs buddies playing together. Cuz we have fun playing together, know each other and nobody of us wants to play with a stranger with a 50% chance of that being an idiot. What do we care if a smurf is in the other team? smurfs die by a headshot too.

I DONT PLAY ANY CASUAL GAME AT ALL TO GET ACCESS TO COMPETETIVE AGAIN, AFTER I HAVE OVER 320 WINS.

Well if it's more than 6 hours then it's even worse. If they want to put up a wall against whatever they fear, then for me personally half an hour is the absolute maximum, but preferably there's no restriction at all and like I said before there is already a wall: payment. Isn't that enough already? I mean come on, this is not some cheap F2P pay-to-win plebsshooter. How many people will purchase the game 5 times in a row so they can continue hacking? Not to mention the time it takes to make the payment already.

So please, remove this wall, revert things back to how they were, otherwise I'm out.

The payment wall doesn't mean much to (smurfs/hackers) Boosters, that will get paid by several people at a time and end up making a profit off making another account

Oh I'm sure it does, tell me, does it occur that often that people a) hack b) get banned for hacking c) repurchase the game d) continue hacking risking to get banned again? Seriously, this is not War Rock, an overwhelming majority of the CSGO playerbase is legit and now the fair-playing people get punished for something that is totally out of their control and is imo only a very minor problem in this game. Heck, they can even increase the price of the game as counter-measure, fine, but at least leave those alone that have been playing the game for ages.
