gun skin help

im aware theres a forum for workshop discussion but no one is active there so i hope the mods dont mind me asking here. im thinking of making a gun skin so i wanna ask on what softwares i need to download/use? also how do i ensure my art doesnt get stolen or anything? additionally, AI isnt allowed,right?like to make my art better,not making a complete new skin

It depends on how far you want to take it. You can just create a simple image and upload it in the workshop to any gun or you can get a uv for a certain weapon and make it clean transitions between faces. You can use whatever image editor/creator you want, photoshop, gimp (free) even ms paint.

i plan to make it somewhat serious. i understand its going to be hard to get one item accepted which is why making it a simple image wont do enough
