There's a relatively significant difference between 240 Hz and 360 Hz, but this is less significant if, for example, the 240 Hz display is an OLED display. If competitiveness is your top priority, you should look for monitors with strobing, such as the Benq 2546K or the PG27AQN.
I have another important tip: keep an eye out for what the pros are using. A great website for this is: https://prosettings.net/
Well most pros on prosettings.net are shown using zowie monitor which have more than 360hz.
About the 300hz monitor we're talking about, it's MSI MAG255XF. It uses IPS panels
(p.s. I'm on a tight budget)
How much does the MSI MAG255XF cost in your region?

My current cpu hits 750fps and my older one was 450fps.
A better cpu is more of a upgrade than a monitor now.
Just saying to give an example, I do have a 240 Hz OLED and a RTX 3080 and a Ryzen 7 3700X. However, in-game I get only about 160 FPS max, down to about 100 FPS at times with my graphic settings (High on 1440p) and despite excellent glass fiber internet connection. I guess I could tune down the screen res and settings but I like it that way.
Check your FPS first. If you get less than 240 FPS, a higher freq monitor >240 Hz will serve you nothing.
