Repeated 20-Hour VACNET Cooldowns in CS2 — Valve Needs to Address Possible False Positives
I'm posting this because I want this issue to be taken seriously, not because I'm trying to evade an anti-cheat system.

On October 10, 2026, I received my second 20-hour VACNET cooldown in CS2. I was playing Wingman solo. Our team was leading 4–2 when, immediately after a round ended, the match was suddenly cancelled and I received this message:

“DashHosseiN and any party members have received VACNET cooldown.”

I was playing alone, not in a party.

I had updated CS2 the previous day and played without any problems. During the match, I had Steam and CS2 running, with MPC-HC playing music in the background. I have not intentionally used cheats or software intended to give me an unfair advantage.

This was not the first time I received a 20-hour VACNET cooldown. After the previous incident, I carefully checked my PC, but now a similar situation has happened again.

I saved a screenshot of the cooldown using Xbox Game Bar. Windows recorded the screenshot on October 10, 2026, at 16:22:38.

I understand that individual player reports cannot prove that every detection is a false positive. However, seeing reports from other players describing similar unexpected match cancellations and cooldowns raises concerns that deserve investigation.

My questions to Valve are:

• What is causing these repeated VACNET cooldowns and sudden match cancellations?

• What can legitimate players do when they believe they have been incorrectly flagged?

• Is there an effective way to review potential false positives and prevent innocent players from repeatedly receiving cooldowns?

• What safeguards are in place to ensure that the anti-cheat system protects legitimate players while detecting actual cheating?

An anti-cheat system is essential for a fair competitive environment. However, protecting legitimate players is just as important as detecting cheaters. When a player receives repeated cooldowns without understanding why, it damages trust in the system and makes it difficult to feel confident playing competitively.

Valve, please investigate these incidents and provide clearer communication about potential false positives and the process for affected players.

I would also like to hear from other players who have experienced similar unexpected VACNET cooldowns. Please share your experiences, including the date, game mode, and exact message received, so we can better understand whether there is a recurring issue.

I'm experiencing a very similar issue. I received a 20-hour cooldown for “VAC has detected irregular gameplay” despite never using cheats. After waiting for the cooldown to expire, I played CS2 again, and my very first match was suddenly disrupted, resulting in a 7-day cooldown.
I had already submitted a support ticket with screenshots of my running processes and other relevant evidence. Before the second incident, I had also closed most background applications to rule out possible software conflicts.
I can't prove what caused these detections, but receiving increasingly longer cooldowns without a clear explanation is extremely concerning. I believe Valve needs to investigate whether legitimate players are being incorrectly flagged and provide a clear way to review these cases.

I think CS2 has lost me as a player. I don't think I'll be playing this game anymore. I don't want to risk getting a permanent VAC ban for something I haven't done, especially when I have no clear explanation for these repeated cooldowns. It's simply not worth risking my Steam account over this.
Man, I honestly feel you so much. I'm going through almost the exact same thing right now, and reading your comment really hit me because I know how frustrating and unfair this feels.

I've also received two 20-hour VACNET cooldowns, and after the second one, I've honestly lost a lot of hope in this game. It's just heartbreaking.

You spend so much of your free time on this game, trying to relax, escape from daily stress, and enjoy yourself for a while. Gaming is supposed to help you unwind and have fun, not leave you stressed, worried about your account, and afraid to even play another match.

And the worst part is not even the cooldown itself. It's not knowing why this keeps happening, especially when you genuinely believe you haven't done anything wrong. You end up worrying about your account and a possible permanent ban over something you don't even understand.

Honestly, I'm starting to feel the same way as you. I'm seriously disappointed, and I'm even considering walking away from CS2 because I don't want to risk my account over this.

I really hope things get sorted out for both of us, man. Nobody should have to feel this way just for trying to enjoy a game after a long, exhausting day.
I'm experiencing almost exactly the same issue, and honestly, this is getting ridiculous.

I've now experienced VACNet cooldowns across **4 different accounts**.

It started with my own account. I first received a 20-hour cooldown. Once it expired, I played again the following day, only to receive a 7-day cooldown halfway through the match.

I then tried my two brothers' accounts. The first one received a 20-hour cooldown, followed by another 7-day cooldown. The second one also received a 20-hour cooldown.

While playing on my brother's second account, I was in a party with three friends, all playing from their own homes. Eventually, VACNet flagged me, and the entire party received cooldowns.

Thinking this might somehow be account-related, I created a completely new account today. I played through the required practice and casual games to unlock competitive matchmaking, completed my first match without any issues, and then received another 20-hour VACNet cooldown halfway through the second match. I was playing completely solo.

That's **four accounts, multiple cooldowns, and absolutely no cheating software**.

I don't use cheats, macros, scripts, or automation software. I've started disabling background applications and investigating my PC, but nothing explains why this keeps happening.

**Valve seriously needs to investigate and fix this.** Legitimate players shouldn't have to worry about losing access to matchmaking for 7 days, 30 days or potentially longer because an automated system keeps flagging them without any apparent reason.

If this is a false-positive issue affecting multiple players, it needs to be acknowledged. At the very least, Valve needs to provide some transparency about what is triggering these detections.

I've played CS for years, and it's genuinely frustrating to reach a point where you're afraid to queue for a match because you might get another cooldown for absolutely nothing.

Bro This post is actually about my previous cooldowns. Check out this discussion [ https://steamcommunity.com/app/730/discussions/0/564797239535421227/ ] and see how Valve handles its players' concerns and how much attention it gives to their problems xDDD

4 VAC Cooldowns? Now 31 Days?

It's pretty disappointing for a major gaming company to keep restricting legitimate players without providing any meaningful explanation or support, isn't it? xD :steamsad:
