What if the community could vote on Workshop maps for official matchmaking?
I've been thinking about this for a while, and I think CS2 could use a better way to bring new maps into official matchmaking.

There are a ton of maps being made by the community, but most of them never get anywhere near the official matchmaking pool.

So what if Valve created a Community Map Voting system?

The basic idea

Valve would first review Workshop maps and select the ones that are good enough to be considered for official matchmaking.

Those maps would then become candidates for a community vote.

Players could vote for the maps they actually want to see in MM.

For example:

20 maps pass Valve's initial review → community votes → top 3 maps enter a testing rotation.

The maps could stay in the matchmaking pool for a limited season while Valve collects real gameplay data.

Things like:

How often players choose the map
Win rate between T and CT
Abandon rate
Average match/round length
Performance
Player ratings
Reports and discovered exploits
General player feedback

If a map performs well, it stays.

If it doesn't, it gets removed or sent back to the creator for improvements.

Valve would still have the final say

I'm not suggesting that every popular Workshop map should automatically become an official map.

Valve should still decide which maps are eligible for the vote and make sure they meet the technical and competitive requirements.

The difference is that players would decide which approved maps are worth testing in official matchmaking.

This could also help Workshop creators

Imagine having an actual path like:

Create a map → publish it on Workshop → get noticed → pass Valve's review → community vote → MM testing → potentially become an official map.

That would give map creators a real reason to keep improving their maps.

And honestly, it could make the Workshop much more interesting.

It could work as a seasonal system

Every few months:

New maps → community vote → testing → statistics → rotation

Some maps stay, some get replaced by new ones.

This wouldn't mean removing all the classic maps. It would just give the official pool a way to regularly introduce fresh maps without Valve having to completely redesign the map pool every time.

CS2 already has the Workshop and a huge community making maps.

Why not let the community have a bigger say in which of those maps actually make it into matchmaking?

Valve handles quality and competitive integrity.
Players decide what they want to play.

I think this could be a really good way to keep the map pool fresh while giving Workshop creators a real path into the game.

What do you guys think?

Game would be dead
I agree. I think this would integrate well with the community and the competitive scene. I'd also like to throw in a hot take and that is; that hostage mode maps should be available to be placed in the active pool. I think players should be able to vote on what maps go and stay etc on a rotation.
