why is this game's file size so large

why is this game so large? Is it because of the lighting? the models? does anyone have a definitive awnser?

Hey that's actually a really good question. TF2 has like a hundred maps in its rotation but is still less than the CSGO install size. I never even thought of the file size until you brought it up.

Most of the space is taken up by uncompressed vpk files in the game's csgo folder. These include the resources used by the game. You can use some 3rd party programs to open them to see what's inside. A lot of space could be saved by compressing them (try zipping some of them to see how it could cut file sizes by even 50% or more), but then they'd have to be uncompressed while running the game, which would make the performance worse (and space is much cheaper than computing power anyway).
