confusion about csgo case keys

so why is there only a few breakout keys left, but thousands of breakout cases on the market? since only a few would able to be opened, most of those breakout cases should be useless no? I just used breakout cases as an example. just really confused about this, or are keys always available to be purchased through csgo, even for discontinued cases?

key are no longer tradable, only the ones that were bought before a date I don't remenber are tradable.

However, you can still buy the key amtching a case if you ahve the case. So you can still open it

its only the tradeable keys that are in te market non tradeable keys can still be bought for 2,49 or however much it costs in your currency
