Mic not working in CS GO!!
Hello all! First post so be easy on me!

I played CS back in the early to mid 2000's and decided to pick it back up earlier this year. Found a killer deal on a high end rig locally and immediately installed Steam and downloaded CS GO. I have over 100 hours so far and recently started playing competitive and I am hooked. One problem.....my mic does not work. I have searched the internet for hours and I have tried everything I can think of. I have played with all the sound settings in windows and it doesn't matter what I change, the mic works perfect in Windows test and through the in game test but I get nothing while playing. When I hit the button to chat the icon pops up but it does not pick anything up. Below is a description of my PC and what I have tried

i7 4770k
MSI z87 Mpower Mboard with realtek HD audio
16gb ram
GTX 780 video card
started on windows 7 pro but I am currently running windows 8.1. The switch to windows 8.1 was an attempt to fix the mic issues.

I have tried three different headsets, Skullcandy Playr1 wireless, Logitech G35 wired and the 3.5 earbud/mic that comes with the PS4

I am at a loss! I bought this PC strictly to play CS GO and bought another headset, a new operating system and nothing seems to work. I have tried adding/editing a number of items in the cfg.config file and nothing fixes it. My next option is to try and buy a seperate sound card assuming there is some sort of conflict with the on board audio and steam but I do not want to keep throwing money at the problem as that has not worked so far.

I have come across a number of posts on different forums with similar problems but never a solution.

Playing competitive without a mic is frustrating.....PLEASE HELP!

Hi,
(Nice PC by the way!). Anyway, there are a number of things you could try (or may have already done) so I'll list some of them...

1) Ensuring voice communication is enabled within the CSGO settings (should be under audio or voice).

2) Ensuring the correct recording device is selected within windows (right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select 'recording devices', from there, make sure your microphone is set as the default device by right clicking it) and that drivers are updated for the motherboard and potentially each headset/mic.

3) Validate the game cache (Do this by right click the CSGO icon in you Steam library, selecting 'properties', going to the 'local files' tab and clicking 'validate integrity of game cache'.) This will rule out corrupt files as a cause.

4) If none of these work press the tilde ` key (the one above 'tab') when on the CSGO main menu and typing 'voice_enable 1' (without the quotes).

Sorry for being so vague with solutions as I have not experienced this issue myself, but I hope it helps a bit... Good luck :)

If the Windows test works, then it's an issue with CSGO, not your computer or your mic(s).

So you get the icon that's supposed to pop up when you activate voice chat, right? AFAIK you're not supposed to hear yourself talk through the game, that would be more confusing than anything. Have you asked other players if they can hear you? Have you tried plugging your mic into another audio jack?

If all else fails, try reinstalling the game entirely if you haven't already.

Did u solve the Problem nekcihcegnaro? I have the same problem and spent hours to fix it but nothing worked. i5 4670K, MSI Board with Realtek HD Audio. I also switched from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1(formating and deleting whole steam library). All drivers are up to date and in Settings and any other Application like Skype, Teamspeak the microphone just works perfectly. I'm hooked to CS GO too and I love the competition mode but pls Valve fix that Problem! :(. I think I have read nearly every thread related to this topic but no solution.

Omfg I "fixed" it. If u check the Steam settings on Windows u can choose 1 push to talk key. I had "V" and in the lobby the voice worked but ingame not. The reason why it worked in the lobby is, that in the lobby u don't have to press any push to talk button at all. It's open there. But in game the open microphone does not work. So I tried to press V but nothing happened. The solution is, that cs go changed the V(set directly in steam settings on windows desktop) button to K. You have to check the Keyboard/Mouse Binding Menue and scroll down to "use mic" and there u can change the push to talk button to whatever u want. It seems that the microphone worked all the time but I was just pressing the wrong button because I was only thinking about the Key I have chosen in steam settings. But those Key won't work in cs go. There u have to chose a new one again and the standard is "K".

I had this issue as well, turns out i managed to fix it.

I went into my recording devices in windows and disabled all the ones that i was not using then i went in game and in audio settings, down at the bottom right there is a "mic settings" button. within there, i clicked "redetect audio devices" (or somthing like that).

if you start this process with your game open, you will need to restart the game (like i did)

i hope this helps!!!
