Anyway, here's a post I wrote in the insurgency forum(which uses the same version of source as CSGO) which may or may not help you(no guarantees):
http://steamcommunity.com/app/222880/discussions/3/558751813567314130/#c558751813570077893
The first half is very basic stuff but you might want to look at it anyway. The video.txt I mention can be found in steamapps/common/csgo/csgo/cfg.
You can also type -dxlevel 80 in the game's launch options, which may be more useful than typing -dxlevel 90. A good portion of what you need to know is detailed in the post.
The reason you have lower FPS on CSGO and high FPS on 1.6 and source is because CSGO runs on one of if not the newest version of source, meaning it has more of today's graphical capabilities than the old source circa 2004 had.
If it's a new GPU you want and you want to stick with nvidia then a GTX 650 or 650 ti might suit your needs. It's reasonably priced and reasonably powerful. I think the AMD equivalent is the 7770, with the 7850 being a step up from those two and being closer to my GPU.
I myself use a 650 ti boost 2gb, paired with a 4.5ghz FX 4300.
You have 100 fps in source because your GPU is years ahead of that game.
Guys I KNOW it's out of date. But as I explained, It's a situation between playing with this card, or not playing at all. Unfortunately. So a big THANKS to ownomics for actually trying to help.
Ryna - I'm not blaming CS:GO, of course it should crave more as time moves on. Instead I was asking if there was a way to turn off some eyecandy for more FPS. The game itself is awesome, and should follow the new graphics standards. No doubt about it.
you could turn off every feature and it would not matter. Your gpu architecture is too slow, and the actual design of the card overall lacks the grunt power to push CS-GO even with the features turned off.
you wanna push it at least medium? youll need a good GTX 560 (Can be picked up for like 150$) or better.
true, but good luck finding a person willing to part with that GTX 660 (most are turning em into streaming boxes through their use).
