There was something not too long ago that showed the moving spread of the M4A1-S without the silencer on was better than with it on, but, personally, I have not seen this ever be true in actual play.
I am not sure about this, but it may be true that in GO, unlike the previous CS games, removing the silencer makes the world model smaller, so you can sit closer to a corner without your gun poking out. I haven't really noticed or thought about this until now, though.
Wrong. The Silencer does not reduce damage.
I keep the silencer, because it looks awesome decreases recoil and it looks awesome.
Some people tend to remove the silencer to not be seen around corners because of the long silencer. But then you can take P2000 / M4A4 if it worries you so much.
Since USP-S and P2000 (or M4A1-S and M4A4) have the same damage values there is only one decision to make:
do you want more ammo/bigger magazine or do you want to be quiet? ;)
EDIT:
The M4A4 has higher recoil, lower accuracy and a larger fire spread compared do the M4A1-S.
The M4A1-S unsilenced has higher recoil.

you get crazy recoil and a louder gun,
I guess it's good for distractions though..
The pros that use the suppressed guns leave the suppressor on.
No silencer - firerate higher (on USP for sure), smaller model
You may also consider it a benefit to be able to draw attention to you over your teammates if necessary but this is highly situational. Certainly a matter of opinion.
But really you should keep the silencer on at all times.
-It reduces the kick of your recoil pattern.
-It has no negative impact on your damage or effective range.
-It replaces your muzzle flash with subtle barrel smoke.
-It causes your weapon to give off no bullet tracers. (This and the one above are huge boosts when returning fire against enemies through smoke.)
-And of course the gun is 100% silent from mid-range and beyond so people will need to rely on a combination of map knowledge and bullet impact noises to discern your location.
Combined, you remove some pretty major advantages by taking the silencer off. Without, you effectively have an M4A4/P2000 with less ammo.
The thing you guys are talking about is a suppressor and there is no reason to remove it.
A Silencer is the original brand name of the suppressor. They are one in the same.
Even more of a reason not to remove them in GO. Seems pretty stupid to even have the option.
There's no need to take off silencer
