Best way to strafe?
I'm new and I'm trying to learn as much as I can and as best as I can; I don't want to learn things the wrong way of course. I've heard 3 methods of strafing:

1) Move in one direction, stop for a very brief second (0.5) take your shots and move the other way. Repeat.

2) Hold shift and press A and D subsequently while taking shots simutaneously.

3) Counter strafing; move one way, press the opposite direction briefly to halt any movement and take your shots. Repeat.

Which one is the most effective? Thanks in advance.

number 2 is incorrect
never hold shift, makes you really easy to shoot
you only press it when you shoot if youre doing it that way

1 is best ofc

3 is just for movement

You want to make the most immediate stop possible before popping out any burst. Don't be too predictable when you begin to move again. If you went left the first time, consider the possibility of going left again instead of moving back to the right.

Skip to about 1:20. That's exactly how it should be done.

Simply waiting to drift to a stop can be a big enough window to get you killed. And can tempt you to fire before you've regained your accuracy.

1 is the way new people think it's supposed to be done. 2 is how to never land a hit again except by accident.

On a final note, leave the shift key (or whatever you use to walk) out of combat. If your enemy is already looking the right way, they'll see you before you see them. And their is a very brief period where you can run without making an audible step. Leave walking purely for the purpose of denying the enemy some info.

Here is a link to a version that's slightly more refined than the one in the video.
In that video Friberg makes a point of moving similarly to how he's moving while practising your aim instead of standing still. When you're actually in a fight you spend very little time completely still.

How about holding D then counter with A AND use shift to make the halt faster?

dont use shift ever unless you want to be silent
