Dual Core or Multi Core for CS:GO?
So I am looking to build a pc and still have not purchased the CPU. So I was wondering if it would be better to purchase the $60 Intel Pentium G3258 and Overclock it to round 4.4 Ghz, or to purchase a $170 Intel i5 4460 which is a locked CPU at 3.2 GHz. NOw the important thing I was wondering was does CS:GO utilize all 4 cores, or does it only use 1 or 2, making the cheaper processor worth much more.

My current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dMzcsY

cpu is very important for cs:go, u should get the best u can afford, ofc at reasonable price.

I would think that the i5 would be better. I think the game is more based for cpu. Did not know you could not overclock the i5. Most of those have a built in boost future. So it may be 3 ghz and boost up to 4 ghz. Something in those lines.

The only i5 CPU's that u can overclock end in a "K" such as the Intel Core i5-4690K, but thouse cost at around $230 which is way too far out of what I am willing to pay

check dis site for cpu's performance - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

Yeah true. But still without the over locking the i5 is better. I believe Csgo does use all of the cores.

Single core if you are feeling brave.

Yeah says it can run on multiple cores. I have an i7 with 4 cores. Well it shows as 8 due to hyper threading. And when I check the game is using all 8.

look it can run on multiple cores, but it isnt necessary, it doesn't boost FPS or performance as it increases the max FPS without keeping a stable FPS making it just as useful as only haing 2 cores, it can run very fast and perform will and fast with only dual cores as it is multi core optimized as well

It isnt necessary for the multiple cores though, with the i7 thats just over the top and not necessary for me as I am making a budget build

True it is. Came with my build. It runs better using more cores then only 2. I put it to run on 2 and it dropped my performance.

If wanting budget sure go with the dual core. But later down the road if updates, or newer games need more then the i5 may have been a better choice. Of course by then you may have the funds to upgrade.

I just know
That Csgo is more geared towards cpu. But I am also the type that I try to get the best I can. If I only have 60$ then I get the best I can with that. If I have 200$ I get the best I can with that.

If you have x amount of money for the build I look at options. Like less ram if you have a good graphics card as ram can get added easily later. Same with hard drive.
