[SOLVED!] CS:GO not starting !! Help, directx? windows update?
THE PROBLEM (fixes below)
SO guys anyone know a fix for this, when i start the game it tells on steam that i am ingame for a few seconds but i am not, then my profile status turns from ingame(green) back to online(blue)

the process csgo.exe also opens in that short time

I recently opened up dota2 after a long time and it installed directx and I updated windows and after that it stopped working.

after verifying game cache it installs directx again but still doesn't work

What i tried:
Verifying game cache
backing up via steam and restoring (altough settings stay same with that, maybe fresh install?)
updating windows even more (yes, bad decision)

WHat to do?? anything with dota? reinstall directx?(how?)

please let me know if u know a fix, or if it happened to you aswell.

GENERAL INFO if you generally don't want problems in games or with your pc in general:

-disable all obstrusive/interfering programs, like razer synapse, overlays(discord overlay etc)., msi afterburner overlay

-Also stop updating windows, it's useless and only causes problems, think about it.

-stop running ccleaner etc, you can accidentaly delete things that give you vac authentication error and other errors in general.

-don't use antivirus, just use your brain. If you have no brain you will get virus anyway, antivirus doesn't save you, also antivirus sometimes causes problems with games and other things, if you want to keep antivirus, make sure your games are not blocked by it, add them to exception list/ whitelist.

-If you have this problem after updating something (windows update, gpu driver update etc, just downgrade to the old version, or deinstall the update

1. FIX, WINDOWS MANAGEMENT INSTRUMENTATION :
If you're running Windows, I'd give this a try. It worked for myself and a few others with the same issue.

Go to search, type in "msconfig", press enter, press the "Services" tab, press the "Service" heading at the top of the list, scroll down and deselect "Windows Management Instrumentation", press OK and restart your computer.

If this does not work, do the same steps but select that same service and restart your computer to undo the changes made. If it does work, remember the service you turned off and how to turn it back on, I'm not sure how important the service is, it has just caused problem with getting CS to start. Either way please let me know if this helps or not

2. FIX, ANTIVIRUS :
As I said before, it can cause problems
Try deinstalling your antivirus and see if it works, if not, don't install any antivirus until you fix the problem.

If you have no brain and get a lot of viruses, try adding an exception to the entire csgo folder, or entire steam folder, or disable the antivirus if that's an option

3. FIX, COMPATIBILITY MODE :
so again in short form but the other ones in the older posts might be useful too

What I did after trying everything, (So I'm not 100% sure it was this.) was:
1. Right click CS:GO.exe in folder
2. Go to properties
3. Go to Compatibility
4. Click "Change Settings for all users"
5. Change it to Windows 7 & check off run as admin
6. Verify integrity of game cache through Steam Library
7. Restart computer
8. Let first time set up & Play

4. FIX, RAZER SYNAPSE :
I had same issue as main post and tried all the fixes listed in this discussion but nothing worked.

Also tried playing from a new windows admin user profile which worked for a couple of games then stopped.
After lots of googling I found my problem was with "Razer Synapse".
Synapses, if loaded/opened before steam launches was blocking csgo from launching.
I have stopped the 'launch at start' on synapses and now open Synapses only after csgo has launched fully and all works fine.
I just need to work out now how to stop synapse from interfering with csgo launch so I don't have to manually open Synapses every time I play >.<

Hope it helps someone..

:)

TL:DR
Razer Synapse can block csgo from launching, open Steam, then csgo, then start Synapses in that order as a fix.

Thanks to http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198283456555 for commenting another possible way of fixing the problem

4.5 FIX, DISABLING RAZER DATA TRACKING :
use this if you don't want to deinstall razer synapse
https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/2nzqhl/how_do_i_make_razer_to_disable_stats_manager/cmimk0r

5. FIX, MAKING A GUEST ACCOUNT IN WINDOWS :

Shiya Show said:

For anybody that still can't get it working try running it in safe mode. I did it and it warned me that Xbox DVR was causing issues which led me to try these steps...

Didn't work. I've had tried it, now i tried it again but it remains the same.

I'm thinking about removing and then installing it back though
Did you try installing all of the microsoft c++ redistributables?

Also, system specs and operating system please.
I'm having a similar issue. Windows just rolled out an update for me today and now my game is doing that exact thing. I have tried everything I can do which is reinstalling, verifying cache and changing some options such as run in windowed mode and nothing has helped.

Neither of you are specifying the operating system you're using.

god it's most likely the windows update then, looks like the best thing would be to fully ignore those harmful updates

Windows 7 64-bit for me, never thought this would have problems with the game, I guess win10 is a viable option now
I'm running the latest windows 8.1..

Also two others:

PROBLEM SOLVED !!!!!!!! Here is what i did

- Quick Troubleshooting WMI features:
1) Click on Start / Run and type cmd
2) Enter: net stop winmgmt
3) In Windows Explorer open Windows \ system32 \ wbem.
4) Remove a directory named Repository.
5) In Command Prompt type: net start winmgmt
And possibly to resave all WMI components enter from the command prompt as follows:
cd / d% windir% \ system32 \ wbem
for% i in (*. dll) do RegSvr32>-s% i
for% i in (*. exe) do% i / RegServer

Now the game launches again !!! I hope it helps

I find it unlikely you had the time to explore every solution. Either way, that was 10 minutes of googling, the only other solution I found was completely uninstalling steam and re downloading the game.

I saw these fixes too after I googled it earlier, so I have had longer than 10 minutes :) Oh well i'll just have to leave CS:GO for a while, I need to anyway. Good excuse to stop procrastinating.
